Kai and I helped make history on Saturday. We attended the 2nd Annual Great Cloth Diaper Change, joining with families around the world to break the Guiness World Record created the previous year. We joined a little over 30 families at the West County Cotton Babies store in St Louis. We drove two hours each way to join the fun and we had a fantastic time! I loved walking into the gorgeous store, surrounded by fluff and moms carrying their babies in a variety of slings and carriers.
Highlights of our trip included (finally) meeting Jill from Life is Not Bubble Wrapped and her adorable family! Jill and I live maybe an hour apart and talk regularly online, but this is was our first in person meeting. When I saw her, I couldn’t help but give her a hug and I just started talking away, as if picking up a conversation. I’m definitely not shy. Hopefully I didn’t overwhelm her. I also loved meeting other area moms and chatting about cloth diapers and life in general. Meeting new people and participating in events like this always rejuvenates me and encourages me to continue blogging, advocating, and connecting!
I also had the pleasure of meeting Heather from Cotton Babies. She is the wonderful media rep who joins twitter parties on Monday nights and generously hands out prizes. We chatted awhile back when I won a new Albert Freetime, which I love, during a party. Heather is even more terrific in person, with a natural warmth and enthusiasm, and I loved talking with her!
I’d hoped to meet Jennifer Labit in St Louis, but she was in Florida sharing insights and signing fluffy bums for families there. She travels frequently, so it was a bad assumption on my part. I truly enjoyed meeting her professional, friendly staff. They did such a good job remaining flexible, helping customers, and ensuring everyone had a fabulous time. I loved seeing employees walking around the store with babies snuggled in carriers, sharing their expertise, even introducing new families to cloth once the event ended. Even if you don’t exclusively use Bum Genius or other Cotton Babies brand products, they sell a variety of other brands, and you can feel good shopping with a business with employees who truly represent their mission.
Thanks to Cotton Babies for hosting the event and to the Baby Care Diaper Service for helping to officiate. We had a wonderful time and we loved our goody bag! Also, thanks to the generous coupon given to participants, I have a new Bum Genius 4.0 to give as a baby shower gift, along with a copy of Changing Diapers. Signing up for Change 3 Things Challenge also inspired me to take a look through our stash for some diapers to donate and help other families begin cloth diapering as well.
I’ll be watching the numbers to see if we broke the world record for most cloth diapers changed simultaneously. You can too at The Great Cloth Diaper Change.

Had so much fun meeting you and Kai! We ended up with a really full day even after participating in the change. I think we’re still tired!
