We went on a 2 week family vacation and came home to discover tiny flies invading a closet. In the rush of packing, we neglected to check up on our kid’s lemonade stand leftovers. They did a terrific job cleaning up after themselves, except for one little detail – they put their trash in the closet alongside the table and chairs. Thankfully, we know an eco-friendly DIY fly trap trick that catches those tiny nuisances every time.
Making your own eco-friendly DIY fly trap is quick, easy, and cheap. You most likely have all of the materials you need on hand. This fly trap uses a bottle from your recycling bin and apple cider vinegar, so it is safe for the environment and any curious kids who want to help.
You can make these DIY fly traps in minutes and place them in any room with a fly problem. This is usually the kitchen, but you never know how kids will add “adventure” to your life. These traps aren’t pretty, but neither are the flies, and you will be rid of them in just a day or two.
Eco-Friendly DIY Fly Trap
Supplies
Recycled Soda Bottle or Water Bottle – 2 liter or 20 oz
Apple Cider Vinegar
Scissors
Tape
Instructions
- Rinse out your bottle.
- Cut the bottle at the top of the label. You might need to do your first cut with a knife.
- Turn the top half of the bottle upside down and place it inside the bottom half. Allow some of the top half to stick out of the top, so you don’t leave gaps.
- Tape the two halves together.
- Pour apple cider vinegar in the bottom half, about a quarter of the way full.
- Place fly trap in room and wait for results (you won’t need to wait long).
Tip: Don’t stress if the flies hang around the top at first. They’ll get trapped in the bottle in no time.
