What is your favorite indulgent beverage? I decided to use this question as the starting place for my Glass Dharma Straws review. If I’m going to test a straw, why not also treat myself to delicious drink? So, today I’m going to share my family’s experience with glass straws, then treat you to a recipe for my favorite beverage!
I’ll admit to being a bit skeptical about glass straws at first. While I am striving to be eco-conscious, I also need to be budget-conscious and I can purchase 100 disposable straws for around $1. Plus, let’s be honest, when have “kids” and “glass” sounded like a good combo?
Glass Dharma creates straws to be used by families and they don’t require any specialized care, beyond what you would do for your normal dishes. I decided to try the original glass straw for my family because Glass Dharma straws are:
- Dishwasher safe
- Sturdy
- Family-friendly
- Easy to store
- Made and sourced in the United States
- Backed by a hassle-free lifetime guarantee
Before I had a chance to mix up an Italian soda, my kids saw the straws. They love using straws with any drink – hot chocolate, juice, smoothie, you name it – and the idea of a glass straw immediately delighted them. I’ll admit to still being dubious about glass straws withstanding my three kids, but I poured drinks and handed them over.
It wasn’t long before I heard a “clink” as one of the straws hit the ground. To my delight, there wasn’t a chip or scratch in sight. We washed the straws in our dishwasher silverware drawer that night with no special treatment. They came out of the dishwasher clean and unscathed, then easily stored in their own slot in our silverware drawer.
Since that time, we’ve used our Glass Dharma straws regularly in hot and cold drinks and the drawer of plastic straws was quickly forgotten. We tried several styles of straws, which I appreciated, because they meet different needs and come at different price points.
I especially liked the 12mm x 10″ Smoothie straw because it is perfect for tall glasses and thick drinks. The beautiful Bend straw is also an elegant addition to a beverage. You can purchase basic straws beginning at $6 and larger straws all the way up to $13. Whatever you choose, I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed using a glass straw over a plastic version. Plus, they help decrease my family’s impact on the environment, which always feels good.
The Decorative Dot Straws are by far my favorite because they add a touch of whimsy to your experience and I like the idea of a different colored straw for every member of my family (more colors, please!). $11 per dotted straw is a bit of a splurge, but they would make fun holiday gifts and my family only realistically needs one straw per person.
I did – finally – get the chance to mix my favorite drink, The Italian Soda. Here’s the recipe, in case you want to treat yourself to simple, delicious drink.
Enjoy a delicious, family-friendly beverage in just a few simple steps! This is just like the coffee shop Italian Sodas - for a fraction of the price.
Ingredients
- Ice
- Club Soda
- Half and Half
- Flavored Syrup (the kind you find at coffee stands). Torani Passion Fruit is my favorite flavor!
- Whipped Cream
Instructions
Fill a cup with ice cubes.
Fill the cup about ¾ full with Club Soda.
Add 3 tablespoons half and half (I really just eyeball this and add until it's creamy to taste).
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of flavored syrup. You can add one flavor or combine flavors to create a unique drink.
Top off with whip cream.
Enjoy!

We were talking about these just the other day, we’ll check it out.
My son MUST drink from a straw, and we ONLY use reusable straws at home. I’ve never tried glass ones, only stainless steel, but I love the look of these Dharma straws!
I like the idea of glass straws. I hate throwing the plastic ones away. We also have some paper straws, but, again, I hate throwing out the waste.
I’ve never heard of glass straws before, plastic and metal reusable straws. Thanks for the review AND the great recipe for the soda!
I think my favorite indulgent drink would have to be chocolate ice cream with cold coffee mixed in. These glass straws are an awesome idea too!
My daughter would have so much fun using these straws!
I will have to try this–it sounds really yummy!
I am glad the straw did not break. I will have to look into purchasing these for my nieces & nephews.
We absolutely love our GlassDharma straws. I can’t wait to try this recipe- it sounds amazing! Just need to get some flavored syrup the next time I go to the store. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
I finally got a Glass Dharma straw and I haven’t tried it yet! Maybe I should try your recipe!

I’ve been wanting to try glass straws for awhile now but have been afraid my kids would destroy them the first day but I think I might just give them a try now
We have some Glass Dharma Straws, and we love them! I wouldn’t go back to plastic/disposable ones at all! I do however have a few silicone ones for my youngest son. Def would recommend these to anyone!
I’ve got to try these straws–they look really neat!
