Some days, I think kid messes might give my husband a heart attack. We are on kid number four and I am nearly immune to sticky, gooey messes and stained clothing. I can still appreciate a great messy kid hack when I see one, though. I discovered the perfect summertime popsicle solution and decided to find the best messy kid hacks and try them with my kids.
8 Messy Kid Hacks
- Cupcake Liners Under Popsicles. Every time baby eats a popsicle, his hands and legs get covered as it melts. A cupcake liner is the perfect drip solution. Simply make a hole in the middle for the popsicle stick and you’re set. Want a reusable option? Buy silicone cupcake liners and cut out permanent holes for popsicles!
- Greenpaxx Universal Lids and Straws. Kids are notorious for spilling drinks and loving straws. Save your t-shirts and the environment with Greenpaxx. Their universal silicone lids fit over different sized cups – from plastic baby cups to kid cups to glass cups. These are affordable and durable, making them easy to bring anywhere you go!
- Paper Bowls Under Ice Cream Cones. Ice cream cones are a disaster waiting to happen. Kids always want them in the car too. Keep a few small, paper plates in your car and poke a hole for the cone. This will catch drips and save car seats and clothing.
- Cupcake Sandwiches. Just today, my kids picked out cupcakes for a treat. In just a matter of seconds, they had frosting from noses to chins. To save their faces, unwrap the cupcake and twist off the bottom. Place the bottom half on top of the frosting and – ta da! – a cupcake sandwich.
- Roll Pizza Slices. When my kids eat pizza, the cheese inevitably slides off. If you roll the pizza slice from tip to crust, it’s much easier to keep all of those yummy toppings where they belong (and off of kid’s laps).
- Flip Your Burger. If I’m being honest, this hack is really for me. I despise soggy hamburger buns, but they feel inevitable. Last night, I learned that you should flip your bun when preparing it, so the thicker portion is on the bottom. This way, the juices and ketchup won’t soak through the bread before you’ve even started.
- Invert a Coffee Filter or Cupcake Liner Over Your Cup. Who knew cupcake liners had so many non-baking uses? If you want to keep bugs out of your drinks, but don’t have any GreenPaxx handy, invert a coffee filter or cupcake liner over your cups and poke a hole for the straw.
- Snacks in the Bath. Why not get real about the mess and have a pre-bath snack? Simply put the kids in the bathtub with their snacks and then turn on the water for some bubbles and fun. Everybody wins!
