I love connecting with other bloggers, reading about their experiences, gleaning new ideas from their blogs, and sharing my own thoughts. Today, I thought it would be fun to share a few random tidbits about me, in hope that you’ll share some in return! Just take a few minutes and write the first 25 things that pop into your head.
* I’ll only really enjoy a banana during the time when they’re perfectly balanced between green and yellow, firm and soft. My family disagrees.
* I used to walk in a room and worry that no one would like me. Now I know the secret is to walk in a room and look outward – forgetting myself has made all of the difference.
*TV makes counseling look like some stodgy know-it-all diagnoses you and solves your problems. In my experience, counseling is about coming up with your own revelations, owning your challenges, learning to change the way you think things, and developing skills so that you can problem-solve on your own.
* I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Christian, and I believe this has made all of the difference in my life.
* In my early 20s, I struggled with my concepts of women’s roles and wondered if I really wanted to be a mother. Then I met my husband and, when I envisioned our family, I’ve never wanted anything more.
* I think sometimes I’m a bit afraid of putting everything into a dream. Professional failure frightens me.
* I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer for it’s witty writing, but I’m not into vampire stuff. I love it for the same reason Veronica Mars is my favorite show or I tuned into all those fast-talking seasons of the Gilmore Girls. I know people don’t really talk like that, but wouldn’t it be fun if they did?
* I am not good at late nights. I’m notorious for falling asleep during movies, even good ones, once it gets late.
* When I saw an advertisement for the new Lyle Lovett album, I felt a little thrill. 2 of the best concerts I’ve ever attended!
* I put my passion for writing on the backburner for way too long. Now I write in my head constantly.
* I cloth diaper, breastfeed, and sometimes use a sling, but I’m not sure I’m a “natural” mom.
* My father died of cancer when I was 14, so I think this has greatly impacted my views on treatment choices. I have few worries about vaccinating my kids because, for me, the risks of the vaccine are much less than the risk of the diseases. When my daughter is old enough, she will definitely get the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. I know this is a touchy subject. These are not fighting words.
* I usually vote democrat, but not because the democrats represent everything I believe. But I often choose them because of my views on healthcare, justice, education, and welfare. Some of my friends challenge me on this because of my faith. But, for me, these are issues of faith.
* I love candy. I’m one of those people who sees a candy bowl and wonders how long I need to wait before I can discreetly take another piece.
* I talk to my mom every day on the phone. She lives across the country and I miss her daily.
* I used to suffer from IBS and lactose intolerance in an extreme way. I can’t explain it, but since I’ve had children and breastfed, the symptoms have virtually disappeared.
* I can talk. Boy, can I talk. I used to struggle with chronic interrupting, but I hope I’m a better listener now. I do love it when I get together with another fast talker, though, and we get into a conversation groove. Oddly enough, I’m also an introvert.
* I’ve tried a naturopath and vitamins, but I find moderation makes me happiest. I like a chiropractor for my back, but prefer a traditional MD for my other ailments.
* I love being in a classroom, especially participating in engaging discussions. Sometimes I miss it. I plan to return for a masters, and maybe a doctorate.
* I’ve been induced twice (the first out of necessity) with an epidural, but I watched “The Business of Being Born” recently and the water births brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful. I’m now curious.
* I recycle and I think I’m a bit “granola” because of my Washington roots, but I’m too cheap (and skeptical) to buy organic in the store. I would like to be part of one of those co-ops where a local farmer delivers seasonal produce and you share it with a group. I’d also like to have my own garden, but I’ve got a black thumb so far.
* I’m an avid reader, but not a constant one, and can quickly devour a book. I have a newfound love for non-fiction.
* I’m one of those people who is always trying a new product, reading something new, or looking into something. And I want to tell people about it. I’m not sure why exactly.
* My husband is my favorite person. My kids run a close second.
* The only thing I really miss about being single is spending lots of money on my wardrobe and dressing up on a regular basis. I like to think I’ve got my own style going, but it’s more difficult to show after 18 months of maternity clothes in the past 4 years, losing weight with breastfeeding (yeah!), and learning to live more providently.
