As many of you know, it’s been a long week for me. I’ve missed blogging and thought it would be fun to get back into the swing of things tonight with a review of a product that passes the Lazy Environmentalist Test with flying colors!
I want to be one of those eco-friendly shoppers who always brings along my own reusable bags. I own plenty of them now. I’ve purchased a few of the awesome large Aldi bags, received several free bags with purchases at the local Festival store, purchased one or two others, and collected a few freebies along the way. I am proud to say they are put to good use for bringing snacks for the kids, cleaning out the car, and traveling with “kid stuff.” Unfortunately, I am ashamed to say they are not put to good use for their intended purpose – I rarely bring them grocery shopping.
Reusable bags for grocery shopping have always been one of those great in theory, not so great in practice, things for me. I’ve never known exactly how/where to store them so they’re handy or how to bring them shopping without having them take up precious cart space. When I do bring them with me, I often struggle to get them out of the cart and into the clerk’s arms before my groceries are bagged.
When I saw information on the Hookeez, a hook made to solve those pesky reusable bag issues, I was intrigued. The Hookeez is part of a grass-roots company and was created by a mom who struggled with many of the same challenges I do when bringing reusable bags to the supermarket. The concept is simple: Place your reusable bags inside one bag, attach them to the Hookeez, then attach the Hookeez to your cart.
With the bags connected this way, you keep them together, you save cart space, and they are readily available at check-out.
Hookeez was kind enough to send me one of their products in sand to try. I liked the idea of keeping all of my bags together with the hook in my car. I even thought I’d be clever and keep it hanging from one of the garment hooks in my van, but it did not stay. It ended up being just as easy to keep it connected to the bag on the floor of the van. I found the Hookeez to be incredibly convenient and easy to use.
While all of my bags were in use, the size was convenient enough to slip into my purse until I unpacked my groceries. I simply keep the Hookeez in my purse or car until I get my groceries unpacked and the bags returned to my car (I am still working on this habit).
At $5 with free shipping, the Hookeez is affordable and convenient! It’s made from 100% recycled materials as well. If you are trying to live a more eco-conscious lifestyle and need something to give you that extra boost to make using reusable bags great in practice and not just in theory, then I definitely recommend getting yourself a Hookeez!

I wonder how this would do in our house. We “try” to reuse grocery bags but I find us always empty handed at the time of check out. 🙁
How convenient. I like the idea that you can attach them to the cart so you don’t have to worry if the inside of the carts are clean.
