Cloth diapers are a big investment. I recently saw the Rumparooz music video claiming that 24 of their one-size diapers can replace 9,000 disposables. That’s a pretty astonishing fact (and an incredible cost savings!). 24 diapers cycled repeatedly over 2 to 3 years (and more if resold or used with additional children) need to be well take care of, however, to hold up to all that wear.


This is where a cloth-diaper safe detergent is so important. When you use the right detergent on your diapers, it is gentle with them, doesn’t leave residue and build-up, and helps fight stink and odors. A great detergent will also leave your diapers whiter and brighter. In my opinion, a cloth-diaper safe detergent should also be affordable because you don’t want washing to undermine the incredible cloth savings experienced with using cloth.

I’ve been struggling a bit with odor issues in my diapers lately, despite using a cloth diaper safe detergent. I’d been curious about other options and started reading positive buzz about Lulu’s in the Fluff Glamour Wash. The idea that one tablespoon could be enough to clean a full load of laundry intrigued me, so I decided to give it a try. Lulu’s in the Fluff was generous enough to send me their Naked Booty scent for regular water to sample.

I wash my cloth diapers every other day and began using Lulu’s in the Fluff Glamour Wash in my next load and was immediately pleased with the results. My son has struggled with toddler’s diarrhea, so my diaper inserts have some staining. I also struggled with getting out a lingering urine smell. The stink was minimized and the inserts looked brighter than they had previously after the first wash with Lulu’s. I’ve been using Lulu’s for several weeks now and I’ve been impressed by the way my inserts and diapers have gradually grown whiter and lost their stink. 

If I have a smaller load of diapers that are not heavily soiled, I use just one tablespoon of Lulu’s. For a larger load or one that is heavily soiled, I use two. I’ve found that using Lulu’s in the Fluff Glamour Wash, combined with adding a 1/4 cup of vinegar to my rinse cycle occasionally, followed by an additional rinse, has seriously improved the condition of my diapers. And, at $10.95 for 45 loads in a regular machine, Lulu’s is also an affordable solution!

  4. Ok, this is really embarassing, but I’m not sure which one I’d need! I’m guessing regular. We have well water, that comes from a mountain stream, so it’s actually really great water.
    I have struggled with the urine smell off and on too. Would love to try this!

  43. I hope that Lulu’s will help take the ammonia stinkies away. So far the only thing I have found is Tide and I would really prefer not to use it. I have to strip a lot more often.

  54. Lulus will help me because it will try me peace of mind that I’m using something good for the cloth diapers. What I use know (clear and free) probably isn’t so good for my cloth. When I first started using cloth, I thought clear and free was good.

Lulu’s will help me get the stink out of my diapers… I currently use a homemade diaper wash but it has seemed to stop working all of a sudden… I have to do almost 3 wash cycles (2 after I wash them with hot water only) just to get out the suds… Hoping that Lulu’s can help with that problem so I can waste LESS water!

  66. I am most intrigued with the statement: “works great on microfiber” I’ve totally given up on my microfiber although they were so much more absorbent… however, I cannot take that stench anymore… maybe I can start using them again??

  109. Using Lulu’s would help my laundry routine because I don’t have any detergents right now that I really feel confident in, especially for soaking diapers in. I haven’t been able to afford to experiment with detergents and so I’ve just bought cheap detergents that were “good enough”. I’d love to try Lulu’s!

  133. A feature that intrigues me is that it’s SAFE for any clothing or cloth diapers, so need to worry there. Plus, it apparently gets out the urine smell which would be really nice!
