Electronics are no longer meant to be stationary. Smart phones and tablets travel in our purses and pockets wherever we go, acting as planners, address books, communication tools, and instant access to information. For many people – from students, to parents, to professionals – a charged phone and tablet are necessities, not luxuries. Jackery knows this and that is why their mission is to keep you charged for school, work, and travel.
My husband had the opportunity to test three styles of Jackery Rechargeable Batteries while traveling to a family wedding recently. Ee tried the Jackery Mini, Jackery Bar, and Jackery Giant+ and would definitely recommend them. Each rechargeable battery featured solid construction and nice metal casing. The charging instructions are easy, allowing you to charge ANY device that charges with a USB.
Charging
You need to allow a few hours for each battery to charge before first use, with the Giant+ requiring the most charging time. This being said, Jackery batteries can hold a charge up to 6 months. Each device comes with a charging cord that can be charged via your computer or plugged into any wall plug that accepts a USB cord (most phones these days have one). It would be nice if the wall plug was included, but it is not necessary.
- 12,000 mAh
- This is a fairly large, a little heavy, but that’s to be expected for the world’s largest capacity external battery pack and portable charger.
- Ideal for long flights, road trips, or whenever you need to charge your iPhone, iPad, and other mobile devices.
- The Giant+ features USB ports for charging two devices at once – one at 1A (for phones) and one at 2.1A (for larger devices).
- Includes a 2-LED flashlight that could be handy in an emergency. It emits a bluish light. Doesn’t put out a ton of light, but it’s enough to get by. Can stay on up to 700 hours on a full charge
- On a trip, my husband did the following on one charge:
- Gave my phone an additional 50% charge two separate times. (Galaxy S5)
- Charged my phone and my sister’s phone simultaneously (using the two USB ports), adding approximately an additional 50% to each of our phones over the course of about 45 minutes. (Galaxy S5 and an Iphone 5)
- After all this, there was still some juice left. Manual says: 1 LED on = 10%–30% remaining. And I had 1 LED on, so there was between 10 and 30% left
- List price is $129.99, but you can find it on Amazon for $29.99 – a great price!
- Substantially smaller and more portable than the Giant+, but holds half the charge (6,000 mAh).
- Features one 2.1A USB port – could charge larger devices like tablets as well as phones
- Great for portable travel charger for long flights, road trips, or whenever you need to charge your iPhone, iPad, and other smart devices.
- This can charge your phone relatively quickly, but be sure to turn your phone off while it charges. I made the mistake of charging my phone overnight, but it used up the battery power by the time I woke up.
- Has a 2-LED flashlight. Emits a more yellowish light. The LEDs on the Jackery Bar are smaller than the ones on the Giant+, but it actually produces just as much, if not more, light than the Giant+. I think I actually like the flashlight on the Jackery Bar better.
- List price is $89.99, but it is available on Amazon for $19.99.
- 3,200 mAh
- Can charge smartphones and tablets, making ideal for traveling.
- The smallest and most portable of the 3. This would be an excellent choice to keep in a purse for an emergency because it is the size of a tube of lipstick.
- No flashlight, which I think is a pretty cool feature on the others. On the other hand, if you’re charging your cell phone, you can usually use that as a flashlight, though it won’t last as long as the built in flashlights on the Bar and the Giant.
- This is the most affordable option. List price is $69.99, but you can get it on Amazon for $10.99.
