I hate to admit it, but I’ve been using basic tide to clean my cloth diapers. It’s on the list of “safe” detergents and I don’t have access to a store with specialty detergents locally, so I just went with it. Unfortunately, my diapers simply didn’t feel like or look like they were living up to their potential. So, I searched for a coupon to offset the cost of shipping and purchased some Rockin’ Green detergent.
After one washing, the cloth diapers looked practically new again. The white looked brighter, the poo stains less noticeable, and they smelled like, well, nothing. Which is exactly how you want clean cloth diapers to smell – no residue! This detergent was created especially for cloth diapers and little one’s sensitive skin. As someone who has issues with detergent sensitivity myself, I’m looking forward to using this delicious smelling stuff on my own laundry! I also love that it only costs .13 cents a load and the packaging is reusable!
Now I regret purchasing the small size and plan to buy the larger quantity, most likely the Rockin’ Green Bundle with the 45 load bag, pail freshner, and wooden laundry scoop. I have fresh linen, which smells just like clean laundry should, but next time I’m going with a retailer that carries Cherry Lemonade. I’m excited to use this fantastic detergent on all of my laundry!
Visit Rockin’Green Soap to try it out – they even have sample sizes!
I also thought I’d share my cloth diaper washing routine for any cloth diaper newbies looking for suggestions:
Every other day I do the following:
1. Unzip my Fuzzibunz in and out bag, drop the diapers in, then drop in the bag.
2. Run everything on a cold rinse cycle.
3. Put in my detergent, then run on a hot/cold permanent press cycle. I initially tried do hand wash/delicate, but found they needed a sturdier wash.
4. Rinse again on a cold rinse cycle.
5. I’d love to say I line dried, but I usually pull out my covers and set them on top of the dryer, then dry everything else.
6. For persistent stains, I’ve laid inserts in the sun with some success.
