I put a post-it note up about wanting to get Lasik recently, but needing to wait until I was finished having babies. In talking with different eye docs, they’ve always indicated that it’s best to wait until you’re done having babies because pregnancy and labor can change your vision. A few readers, as well as my sister, came back and said “Hey! I’ve had lasik and gave birth afterwards with no problems!”
I am in the process of ordering new contacts for the year. They’re pricey dailies because I have so many problems with eye infections and don’t want to risk the problems I’ve had with weeklies and monthlies. In fact, I went 5 years in glasses because my doctor told me not to risk contacts. Contacts have improved now, so I am, thankfully, back in them. Yesterday I thought, “I’m spending so much on contacts. Maybe it would be better to get Lasik.”
My doctor said that you can get Lasik if you plan to have future pregnancies, but they recommend the following: You should be at least 3 months finished with nursing and wait 6 months to become pregnant again. Both nursing and pregnancy affect hormone levels, which can, in turn affect eye site.
And I am actually a case of labor affecting vision. Last January, I went for my annual eye exam and my eyes were driving me crazy. I was seeing shadows, experiencing blurred vision, and getting headaches. Turns out you shouldn’t get your vision test a month after giving birth. My eyes had actually swelled during labor and this affected my vision. They returned to “normal,” but it was pretty uncomfortable for awhile.
So, for all those inquiring minds out there, this is why I still haven’t had Lasik. :0)
I had Lasik in 2003 and my vision changed a little after having my first baby in 2006. Stinks, but at least I’m not totally useless without glasses anymore. And I like my glasses!
You are one of those people who’s body see contacts the same way it would see a germ and destoy it. The contancts are a forgein body, somthing that doesn’t belong in your eye in the first place, that is why you were getting infections. It’s your bodies way of telling you to stop sticking strange things in your eyes. Another cool thing is our bodies are selfhealing, if we give them whole, nutrient rich foods, our bodies thrive. Eating processed, white, refined foods is like putting desiel fuel in your minivan. Want more info

Huh. What an odd side effect. It’s nice it went away, though — I’ll never get my size 9 shoes back. Or even my 9.5s. 🙁
This is very interesting. I’ve often thought about Lasik, but I heard I probably wasn’t a good candidate…at least when I last looked into it.
However, my friend had Lasik before she started having babies and doesn’t seem to have any issues.
I really want lasik. I’ve reached it a little but need to see if I am able to. I have pretty crappy eyes. I know lasik as come along way! I still have to wait a couple years because I’m not doing having babies!!
