When I first entered the world of cloth diapering, I decided to try out some cloth wipes as well. My trial included some pretty fancy cloth wipes, but it wasn’t really in my budget to purchase as many of them as I needed. I saw some basic flannel wipes for a very affordable price and decided to go with them. While they certainly work, they don’t have a great grip for wiping some of those stubborn poops and they tend to soak up too much solution.

I decided it was time to try a new kind of wipe and looked at several different options. I saw Bummas wipes featured on several blogs and liked the colors, price, and fabric. Bummas was kind enough to send me a sample of their “wild ones” and I’ve been using them over the past couple of weeks. I love the colors and think the wild ones would make for a terrific baby shower gift, regardless of gender.

When I first received the wipes, I was a bit surprised by their petite size. A clean bum seemed to be a lot to ask from such a small cloth, but I set my doubts aside. I decided to simply incorporate Bummas into my usual routine. I washed them, then added them in my wipes dispenser with my flannel wipes. I poured on some solution made with Kissaluvs Diaper Lotion Potion Concentrate and they were ready to go.

Using them this way, the wipes immediately impressed me. I loved how the woven velour terry cloth grabbed the poop and how one wipe often did the trick for a whole soiled diaper. I actually also loved how handy the size turned out to be for my wipes container – no folding necessary. These wipes definitely beat my flannel wipes for grip, softness, and durability hands down!

My little guy does struggle with diaper rash, especially now that he is becoming more of a “heavy wetter.” I change him frequently, but it’s easy for moisture to stay in those chubby folds. Bummas was created by parents who waded through all of the advice about a cloth diapering. They perfected their own wipe and routine and decided to share it with other parents.

Bummas recommends a routine that involves covering baby’s privates with a dry wipe fir “sneak attacks,” cleaning up baby’s bum with a wet wipe, then drying with a Bumma wipe. I decided to give this routine a try and liked the results! Doing this cut down on moisture, redness, and diaper rash.

Over time, I tweaked the routine a bit and this is how we use the Bummas for our diapering routine:
For a wet diaper only:
Take a bumma, wet half with warm water.
Wipe baby with wet half.
Wipe baby with dry half.
Put wipe in with wet diaper and toss in wet bag.
Put a new diaper on dry baby!

For a soiled diaper:
Take a wet bumma (or two) and clean baby.
Wipe baby with a dry bumma.
Put wipes in with wet diaper and toss in wet bag.
Put a new diaper on dry baby!

If you are not yet sold on cloth wipes, I highly recommend that you try Bummas. These wipes are affordable at a little more than a dollar a piece, save you money as you reuse them over time, and are soft and durable. Plus, one Bummas wipe goes a long way! Even if you don’t use cloth diapers, Bummas are handy for cleaning up baby and toddler messes and would be great for the bath!
