My husband’s little brother has come to visit for the week and we’re thrilled to have him here! He was sweet enough to bring us a copy of the New Super Mario Brothers for the wii. Tim, who was ultra-committed to getting projects done and being productive during Christmas break has been gleefully playing this game for long periods of time all week!
With the new game, up to 4 players can play at once. When I play with my pretty pitiful skills, it’s all nicey-nice and cooperative. When the guys play, they like to compete, trying to race ahead of the other guy, steal all of the power-ups, and bounce on each other. Suddenly, they are two little boys playing video games together again. It’s hilarious!
As annoying as the game can be in the background after awhile, it does my heart good to see my husband laugh, joke, and look so carefree! I think that being adults can make us too serious sometimes. We have so many responsibilities, obligations, and goals. We take care of our family and often fall into bed exhausted, with little time for video games, a book, etc. I have my outlets during the day – this blog, twitter, my friends – but I think that is missing somewhat for my hubby.
I hope that, when the week is over and he heads back to the “real world,” he’ll remember to take a little time to enjoy a book, a game, etc. I think we all need a little Mario every once in awhile!
Your description cracked me up totally because something similar happened at my in-laws over New Years. Brandi’s family got a Wii and one of the games they got was Super Mario Brothers. She and Clint played on and off for hours. They used to play the old version when they were younger. It was like watching two kids. I’d say there was probably less competition in there playing and more cooperation. Probably because one of the players was a girl.
You make a great point. While my blog was a fun thing – it got to the point where I realized I didn’t have to be on the computer 24/7 for my blog to be good. I’m a weirdo. Now I can still enjoy doing fun things with my kids and also blogging. Without it taking up much of my time. It’s nice to watch some tv and pass out at 9pm once in a while 🙂
My two youngest are addicted to Super Mario Smash Brothers.
