Fundawears Wool Wrap Review and Giveaway (A Great Night Time Solution)

Before I started cloth diapering, I associated wool with the dead of winter. In my mind, wool was an itchy fabric requiring a barrier with the skin and not especially “breathable.” Then I started learning about cloth diapers. Wool covers and inserts would crop up, but they intimidated me because they required special care and were, frankly, a bit pricey.

When I made my choices for diapers to start my cloth stash, I went ahead and purchased mainly one sized and pocket diapers, but threw a few fitteds and prefolds in the mix. I felt like this was the best way to make my money stretch. As I grew more comfortable with cloth diapering, however, fitteds with wool covers continued to intrigue me and seemed less daunting.

I saw Fundawears diapers a little while back and loved that the wool covers are handmade, high quality, and affordable . Plus, Sara, the artist behind Fundawears, is from my home state and a Pacific Northwest native! I asked if I could review a cover and Sara kindly sent a Repurposed 100% Lambs Wool Wrap in large for Big Guy to try. This adorable wrap is soft, has a very trim fit, and fits well into a cloth diapering budget at $16.00. She also sent several wool liners, which I am incredibly grateful for because our little guy has suddenly become a “heavy wetter.”

The Fundawears wrap came lanolized for day and we’ve used it over a prefold, a Bamboozle fitted, and a Nifty Nappy fitted with no leaks during day, naptime, and evening. Do to my error, the cover is slightly larger than Big Guy probably needs (a medium would probably be good, but the large works just fine), so he did soil it one day. This turned out well for us, though, because I was able to test the process of washing and lanolizing wool.

This process turned out to be much easier than I expected! It actually requires much less washing and care than other cloth diapers.

Sara says this about wool: ” Wool is probably the oldest of natural fibers. Its water repelling properties and breathability ae what make it popular for use as a diaper cover. It is lanolized to increase its water-repelling properties. Wool is naturally breathable, anti-bacterial, and can absorb up to one-third of its weight in moisture without feeling wet. Wool is naturally self-cleaning. The cover can be air dreid between uses and will require laundering approximately every two weeks unless soiled.”

After trying the Fundawears Wool Wrap, I am now converted to wool! Based on my experience with this diaper, I give it the following ratings (out of 5 stars):

Cost: ***** Price of Fundawears wool covers varies depending on style and fabric. Price range is $12 to $22. Based on other wool covers I’ve seen, this is an excellent price. Since you don’t need to wash this cover as often as other styles, this is a great money-saving addition to your diaper stash!

Fit: ***** This diaper cover looks like it is hugging my baby. The wide straps curve around baby’s waist and wrap the diaper on snugly. Big Guy moves so well in this cover and it fits so trimly.

Absorbency: ***** With the right amount of layering underneath (I need a fitted with one or two extra inserts), nothing is getting past this cover! I especially love wool at night because I feel like I can trust it to keep Big Guy dry.

Durability: ***** This cover has held up well to wear and washing. Since it does not go through the washer or dryer, but is hand washed, laundry tabs are not an issue. Although, I would like them for drying and storage, just to keep the tabs out of the way.

Color/Appearance: **** I like the look of this cover, but will most likely select something bolder and more fun when I purchase additional fundawears covers. (I love the sweaters that the winner of this giveaway will get to choose from!)

Overall Rating: ***** I would definitely recommend the Fundawears Wool Wrap to new and experienced cloth diapering caregivers. Pair it with a great fitted (Fundawears also offers these) and you’ve got yourself a terrific day and night time solution!
