Over the past weekend, we got our selves a full-fledged walker! Ezra‘s been able to walk for awhile, but would only do it in short spurts from person to person. He would walk holding one hand, but then quickly reach for the past wall. We could see a gradual progression last week, though, as he would spontaneously let go of things while playing and walk from one place to another. Every once in awhile, I’d hear Ella call, “He’s walking, mommy! Ezzy’s walking!”
Saturday, it seems a switch just flipped on and he started walking zombie style with his arms straight out in front. He can also stop and stand for pretty long periods of time as well. We would, of course, get all excited, praise him, and encourage him to keep at it. Ella cracked me up because occasionally she’d step in and walk from one of us to the other and say “I can do it too!” We would tell her how we cheered her on while she was learning, too. Of course, she is not hurting for praise, but it’s hard to see it focused on someone else.
I am actually incredibly proud of how loving and patient Ella has been with her little brother lately. Ezra absolutely adores her – she is basically his favorite person in the whole world (small mama sigh of jealousy). His first word: “Ella.” The person he wanted to walk to first: Ella. The first person he spontaneously kissed all over her back: Ella. He does, of course, make her crazy by pulling at her hair, trying to sit in her lap, taking her toys, etc. But my new favorite sound is hearing their dual laughing voices raised joyfully in the other room. Listening to your little ones play together, laugh together, and get into mischief together is so gratifying. If you have two little people who aren’t quite here yet, hang in there! I’m thinking it will get even better (and worse in some ways).
We don’t live near our family, so I like to share blog updates about the kids every once in awhile. Here’s a few:
Ezra:
Words: Ella, Mama, Dada, Uh Oh, Ta Da, Num Num, No (said a few times).
Signs: More
Walking, Crawling, Climbing, Generally getting into everything.
Loves to follow his sister around.
Waves, gives high fives, plays Patty Cake and Peek a Boo.
Loves anything with wheels (Dad loves that he spontaneously loves cars and trucks).
Would rather go without clothes (can’t wait to have him wear a t-shirt and fluff butt come summer!)
People comment on his long eyelashes daily (why do boys always get the gorgeous lashes?)
Is now becoming cuddlier and has more patience for books.
Still a fussy guy, but his smile is to die for!
Ella:
Really into doing things herself.
Can put on her own coat, shoes, clothes, gloves, hat, etc. (with a little bit of help)
Loves to help cook anything and is a big fan of mac & cheese, pancakes, and cookies.
Still loves, loves, loves snacks.
Graduated from nursery at church and has now joined primary as a Sunbeam.
Cuts with kid scissors.
Draws circles and is starting to make pictures that look like something.
Loves to paints.
Is still a passionate reader and asks to read day and night.
Loves ponies and sometimes says, “I wish I could be a pony.” Grandma Cathy sent her horses, my old My Little Ponies, and Pony pants for Valentine’s Day. I called it “Pony Nirvana.”
She surprises us daily with the things she says and can be a real chatter box (I wonder who she gets that from?)
love the striped longies with the orange and brown, where did you get them? LOL! j/k! They are adorable on him!
The video started and I instantly had Marianna in my lap. She waved back to Ezra saying, “Hi! Hi! Hi!” She also kept trying to spot Ella. I love how Ezra says Ella in such deep tones sometimes.
I was so excited when my gals started walking (they were late walkers, too–about 15-16 months). Such an awesome milestone. And I love that Ezra was kissing on his big sister!
