The warm weather has hit central Illinois and seems to be sweeping Spring by the wayside and heading straight for summer! We’ve given the heat and the AC a break and we’re throwing open the windows. There’s nothing like the combination of the sun streaming in, fresh air wafting through, and a bit of Scentsy to freshen things up. The kids are getting into the spirit of things, too; pulling out their sandals, sundresses, and t-shirts.
In fact, Ezra, who started in cloth diapers last fall, is finally really enjoying the adorable benefits of wearing just a t and an adorable cloth diaper! I love seeing him run around with a fun shirt and a bright orange, vibrant red, sea blue, or patterned diaper. There aren’t many pairs of shorts that can rival the cute factor of his cd’s!
Since he tends to be a “heavy wetter,” we struggle a bit (in both cds and disposables) to keep his little crevices dry enough so they don’t get red and irritated. I’d heard a great deal about wool and fitteds during the Monday night cloth diaper twitter chats, so I decided to give it a try a few months back. I was so pleased at their performance and found that fitteds are the only night time solution that works for us.
With this in mind, I decided to try fitteds for day time use and found that I loved them just as much. Twitter friends once again came to my aid by recommending that baby go cover-free while playing at home on a warm day. This lets’s everything breathe a bit more and can help with some of those irritation issues. We’ve been trying this in the warm weather and it’s made a big difference. You do, of course, need to make sure you’re paying attention to early signs of wetness, so you don’t get any surprises on your pants or sofa, but I haven’t found this to be much of a problem in a good, absorbent diaper, such as the Little Beetle Little-to-Big Fitted from Better for Babies.
The Little-to-Big Organic Cotton Velour diaper is an innovative one-size fitted that comes with either snap or aplix closures, depending on your preference. I have several fitteds with snaps, so I decided to try one with the ease of aplix. This Little Beetle is available in four gender-neutral colors and the orange we received is a lovely, earthy tone. I love how soft the diaper feels, inside and out, and, if he could, I think Ezra would say he loves how comfortable it feels.
My favorite part of the Little Beetle Little-to-Big fitted by far is the innovative booster design. The semi-attached and foldable booster allows you to add absorbency where you need it the most. You can fold it or lay it flat for all-over or customized coverage. You can then add the included doubler by slipping it in under the booster, which cleverly holds it in place! No more struggling to hold your doubler in place while putting the diaper on your squirmy baby!
Based on my experience with the Little Beetle Little-to-Big Diaper, I give it the following ratings:
Cost: ** $24.95 is definitely at the high-end for diapers in my mind, especially when a cover is required. The Little-to-Big does come with a doubler always included, which definitely adds to the value. This price is also comparable to other popular fitteds, such as the Nifty Nappy and Good Mamas.
Fit: **** This diaper appears small at first glance in comparison to other one-size fitteds. Once you put it on baby, see the true pull of the elastic, and the flexibility of the diaper, however, this is not a concern. The elastic fits snugly, without being too tight for sensitive skin, and the waist closes nice and snug. I’m a little torn about which setting to use for Ezra, though, because I like the look of the back better when it is snapped down one, but the look and fit in the front when it is not.
Absorbency **** We paired the Little-to-Big with both a Wonder Wrap cover and Nifty Nappy and Fundawears wool covers. For our heavy wetter, we found the absorbency (with a booster) to be fairly absorbent, but not quite as full-proof as other fitteds we use. This fitted works wonders for day and definitely needs the booster and doubler for night time wear.
Durability *** The high-quality cotton-velour holds up beautifully to multiple washings. It has remained vibrant and supple and looks like new. I like that the Little-to-Big has laundry tabs that keep the aplix in place. I am a bit disappointed to find that one of the aplix tabs is pulling away from the fabric after such a short time, however. The tabs also tend to come undone a tad during wear. For this reason, I would recommend going with the snap closures.
Color/Appearance ***1/2 I think that orange, blue, and green offered in this diaper are all unique shades you don’t see duplicated everywhere. It would, of course, be wonderful to see it offered in a brighter range of colors or patterns. I wasn’t immediately enamored by the look of the cotton/velour at first compared to some of the fun patterns found in other fitteds, but it has grown on me over time. I appreciate how it looks so buttery soft and cozy – something we all want for our little ones. It does look like new limited edition colors are in the works – visit Better for Babies to see the current color!
Overall Rating: ***1/2 I like the look, feel, and general performance of the Little Beetle Little-to-Big and would recommend it as a great day-time wear diaper without a cover or paired with the wool cover of choice at night. Better for Babies also offers a Little Beetle Organic Wool Diaper Cover to pair with their fitted.
Thank you to Better for Babies for generously sending us a Little Beetle Little-to-Big diaper to try. I recommend heading on over to their store to purchase a Little Beetle for yourself and to discover the many earth-friendly products offered through their site.
I received free product for this review. No payment was received and the opinions shared are my own.

Obviously, we are long past the diaper phase, but I would recommend at least trying CD-ing to someone. And your posts “sell” them — even to me who is laundry-averse!
I will say that my concern if I were to have another baby would be the size issue. I had a very large baby. She was only 7lb 2oz at birth, but was 26lb 9oz by 12 months. And she was thick. She was potty trained by 18 months and we were in size 6 diapers. I guess it’s like anything else – trial and error.
Aside from all of that, adorable subject with a great choice of colleges!
Great Review.
I am now going to look into their shop.
Thanks for stopping by on FOllow Friday Last week. I’m trying to catch up.
Following you back
