I may wear t-shirts from five years ago, Payless shoes, and dress modestly, but at heart I’m a bold, daring fashionista. If I could, I would spend obnoxious amounts of money on quirky, colorful, bold, flattering clothing. I’d only buy something off of a sales rack if I really wanted it and I would set trends, not follow them. It wouldn’t matter that they don’t make pants to fit my height/hips/waist proportions because I’d buy those expensive pants and get them tailored. I’d never long for a pair of trouser jeans that didn’t require obnoxiously high heels again!
My husband may not be able to fund my fashion dreams, but he certainly proved he knew me well when he gave me the DS Style Savvy game for Mother’s Day this year. I am what you would call a gamer-light. I’ve aced pretty simple fare such as Diner Dash and Super Princess Peach and I’m proud to have completed both Fable 1 and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. While I sometimes get into the stuff made for serious gamers that my husband plays, I am not above playing less intense games. And this game – aimed at those of us who could dress and style our Barbies for hours as kids – is right up my ally.
The basic gist of this game: You begin as a salesgirl (I am Mimi) at a chic boutique, learn to create ensembles, read customer’s tastes, purchase inventory, etc. After impressing the handsome owner’s butler and winning a few runway contests, you receive your own boutique (mine is called Zum), which you can style to your heart’s content. Throughout the game, you are also free to change your hair, make up, clothing, etc. as often as you choose. If only real life were like this – a nearly endless budget and a dream wardrobe allowing you to reinvent your look whenever it suits you.
Now, this game might sound like it’s for the kiddie crowd, but it’s actually fairly challenging the farther you progress in game play, especially when the customer’s tastes become more complex. Creating new outfits, meeting the challenges of refreshing your inventory with the right outfits, styling mannequins, and drooling over ridiculous fashions is totally addictive for me. I’ll turn the game on for “just a minute” and find myself leaving it on so I can sneakily help a customer here and there. I’ve been up late a time or two unlocking new items, creating ads, and buying new inventory.
I beat the actual runway challenges in about 3 days and thought this game would make it back to ebay, but I can’t let it go yet. I’m addicted. Wondering if I’m the only crazy adult glued to her Nintendo DS styling my avatar? Check out this review (which sold Tim on the game for me) to see what I’m talking about.
Anyone else with a video game addiction?
My husband manages a Game Stop video game store and keeps asking me if I want a DS. I never really cared until right now. I MUST have this game.
I would be what you would consider a gamer-light also. 🙂
We love Fable here. We’re not huge into games, Scott a little more than me, but we both love that one. I played through the first extended one and Scott has also played through Fable 2 a couple times. He actually likes that one better he says.
I’ve never heard of this one and wonder how I’d be at it….but I don’t play video games and haven’t in years…I’m too busy in BlogLand! lol
My husband loves gaming but I am not really into it but this game sounds like a lot of fun.
