When I first heard about Lollidoo – a cloth diaper that is made from recycled materials and that can ultimately be returned to the company to recycle – I was intrigued. Many of us choose to cloth diaper for a variety of reasons, but caring for the environment is definitely high on the list. So, a cloth diaper option that is not only reusable, but that is also incredibly eco-conscious in its manufacturing process is very appealing.
As I learned more about Lollidoo, I was excited to discover that, beyond making a diaper out of recycled materials, they are committed to being environmentally responsible and socially conscious. I visited their website to learn more about their products and discovered the blog of Go Green Sustainable Industries (manufacturer of Lollidoos) co-founder Allison Maines. Here, I got a glimpse of the founders’ passion for creating a sustainable product and their true commitment to creating green jobs and manufacturing in the USA. I highly recommend that you visit Allison’s post about the company’s Core Values to learn more.
We are all looking to support companies such as this with an innovative concept and good intentions. As consumers, however, it’s also important that the company creates a quality, affordable product that works well with our lifestyle (ie, the Lazy Environmentalist Test). I was eager (and hopeful) to see if the Lollidoo concept actually translated to a great cloth diaper that I would add to my stash. When the company agreed to send me an Overnight Eco-Pocket, I was thrilled.
The Lollidoo Eco-Pocket is one-size, recycled, recyclable (by returning to the manufacturer), Organic Pocket Diaper. The Eco-Pocket comes in a classic or overnight version and, while it doesn’t have the traditional PUL you expect from a pocket, it does not require a cover. The highly breathable recycled fleece cover allows moisture vapor to escape, but keeps liquid inside. You can also choose to purchase Lollidoo inserts, or use any popular insert on the market.
The Go Green Sustainable Inudstries commitment to a truly green product shines through in the details of the Eco-Pocket, which include:
*Recyclable Stainless Steel Snaps (Not as attractive as other snaps, but worth the trade-off)
*Outer fleece is made from Recycled Bottles
*Outer fleece is made from Recycled Bottles
*Certified Organic Cotton or Recycled Stay Dry Skin Layer
*Entirely Made in the USA by workers paid a fair wage
*Comes with packaging from manufacturing waste to help line-dried eco-pockets stay on the line
*Innies (sold separately from the diaper) are made from organic cotton french terry fleece or organic cotton knit terry,
I received an Overnight Eco-Pocket with a certified organic cotton skin layer in yellow in the updated sizing. I tested both the absorbency innies and flat innies. Based on my experience with this diaper, I give it the following ratings (out of 5 stars):
Cost: This is where a ratings system is fallible. At $38 including innies and $32 without innies, this is a pricey pocket. Extra innies are 2 for $9 or $10 (depending on fabric) and my son requires 2 inserts. So, simply based on price, I would give it *. But, if you put it through the Lazy Environmentalist Test and consider all of the wonderful things this company is doing, perhaps it is worth spending more on their diaper. So, I am going to leave the cost evaluation blank.
Fit: **** The fleece and the cinch-sizing elastic took a bit of getting used to for me. The cinch-sizing in the legs can be a bit tricky trying to figure it on your little one, but it creates a snug, leak-proof fit when you get it right. I also had to learn to really stretch the waist as far as it could go and trust that it wouldn’t be too tight or leave marks (it didn’t). But, once you figure out the sizing, this is a snug, cozy fitting diaper.
Absorbency: ***** We have a serious heavy night time wetter, so we really put a night time diaper to the test! Every family will need to play around with innies (or inserts), but we found that using one absorbency innie and one flat innie worked best. This gave the right amount of absorbency, without creating as much stiffness or bulk as other combinations. I did find that the Lollidoo inserts do not extend the entire length of the diaper, so we put it toward the front, with a space in back that has no extra protection. This has caused no issues for our son (but you might want to slip it farther toward the back with a girl).
Durability: ***** Lollidoo’s website says that these are durable enough to handle the sanitary cycle in HE washing machines. I don’t have an HE, but I can tell you that it launders extremely well in hot and cold and comes out looking and feeling cozy and soft every time, with nary a pill in sight!
Color/Appearance: *** This diaper is pretty middle-of-the-road appearance wise for me. It can’t compete with some of the cuter prints or sleeker designs out there, but it definitely has a comfy, favorite sweatshirt appeal. I’m not crazy about the look of the metal snaps, but I love that they are recyclable. The eco-pocket comes in a nice range of bold, subdued, and basic colors. I’ve seen both the yellow and purple in person and loved their vibrancy. Also, you can jazz up your diaper if you are willing to pay a bit more for some flair.
Overall Rating: If you leave cost out of the picture, this is definitely a **** diaper for me. This is a cozy, well-fitting diaper that meets our night time needs. Add in the prohibitive price, however, and I lean more toward ***. All of this being said, I would like to support this company and their innovation for my next little one and will save to add some Lollidoos into our stash.
I want to thank Go Green Sustainable Industries for generously sending this Eco-Pocket for me to review and for patiently answering my questions!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary product for this review. I did not receive any payment. This is my honest opinion.

I’d love a yellow ovenight eco-pocket with the organic cotton innie. I’m fascinated by the idea of not needing a cover even without any PUL. Great giveaway!

Just like a few others, I’d go for a yellow ovenight eco-pocket with the organic cotton innie. It’s soooo frustrating when Baby E wants to sleep through the night but his diapers won’t let him because they keep leaking. Ugh! The fleece looks so comfy too.
Something I learned from the Core Values blog: most of their workforce is made up of women (single moms)from domestic violence shelters. Very cool. I love this company’s attitude of social responsiblity.

OMG!!! I would love a lollidoo diaper with flair! As long is it girly. And, I’d try the flat organic innies. It seems that I can fold to get more absorbency.

75% of their staff are single mothers from domestic violence shelters. What a wonderful way to give someone a chance to become independent and make it on their own. Love that they allow the sales reps to bring their children along on sales calls, awesome that they don’t have to choose between one or the other!

I think it’s amazing that they are conscious about who they hire and that they try to give opportunities to those who may be more in need than others, like single moms.
