So, last night I braved the mysterious world of life after midnight. A few weeks ago, I was talking Twilight with the teenage girls I volunteer with at church and I suddenly found myself saying, “I’ll go to the new movie with you.” Little did I know they would want to go to the first showing at 12:05 am (duh. That’s what real fans do). I barely stay up until midnight on weekends these days, so this was quite the stretch for me.
I decided to make the most of the evening and pulled the big purse out of the closet, then stopped ahead of time to jam pack it with goodies. I picked up four of the girls and the hilarity began the moment the first one hopped in. I loved chatting and giggling with them and letting my inner teenage girl join in the fun. Teenage late-night loopies are the best and I didn’t mind playing the clown to give them a laugh at all.
We arrived an hour early to get some awesome seats, but this apparently wasn’t early enough. Our seats were just shy of horribly close, but people arriving later than us still tried to claim them repeatedly. We chomped on popcorn while we waited and played musical chairs – I managed to secure myself a coveted seat in the middle because I had the goodies. My good friend and fellow youth leader arrived, quickly followed by the fifth girl.
I think my favorite part of the evening came when we’d been there maybe 40 minutes and two of the girls became increasingly loud and silly. One stood up at the end of our aisle, quieted the crowd, then asked “Okay, people. Who’s team Jacob?” People (including myself) reluctantly raised their hands, then she asked “Who’s team Edward?” and shook her head at them in scorn. Obnoxious, but hilarious. She and her friend also kept saying my name very loudly repeatedly. In our church, we call each other “brother” and “sister,” so I imagined that the theater was probably wondering what two nuns were doing with a group of teenage girls at Twilight as they repeatedly mentioned “Sister Farmer.” I was pretty amused. My friend, on the other hand, was mortified.
I make no secret that I don’t love Twilight – in fact I actually detest Bella. Could there be a more selfish, self-centered, dull girl (Yes, in the books and movies)? But the story is entertaining and those special effects just keep getting better. My crowd loved that Jacob had his shirt off 95% of the film, but he’s a tiny bit young for me to ogle too much. I’m tentatively team Jacob – gorgeous skin, he’s “like the sunshine”, warm, real, imperfect. When he says that being with him would be “as easy as breathing,”I’m in. But I think he can do better than Bella. For that reason, I don’t want them to end up together, but I also want her to stop jerking him around. Seriously. Things become more pathetic in book four and at that point my loyalties become tenuous and I think “to heck with all of them.” I do have to give them credit, though. Their love triangle and dangerous adventures do make for an entertaining evening. And Robert Patterson was much more “human” this time around and even I wasn’t immune to his smile.
My 2 favorite things from the night: Jacob’s killer line “I”m hotter than you” and explaining to the girls that, no matter how I try, “beast” doesn’t work for me as an adjective. Cool is an adjective. Awesome is an adjective. Beast is a noun.
I was also probably less impressed than I might have been by this movie chalked full of hotties because I’d spent the day with the handsome fella and his new stylish do:

Glad you had a good time. We will likely go and see the Harry Potter movie in November, although I’m not sure we’ll go to a midnight screening.
I hate that love triangle! Like both guys move on already, she only wants one when the other isn’t around. I didn’t do the midnight screening, baby and all. We are waiting a few weeks for date night.
It sounds like so much fun! I love that one of the girls you were with silenced the theater to ask everyone which team they are on. ๐
And at least you got to sleep in a little bit this morning. (Your son looks adorable with that new haircut!)
Also, I have to agree. As much as I do love Twilight, I cannot STAND Bella. She’s so needy and selfish.
Totally agree about Bella. I do not get the appeal.
Sounds like it was fun, though. ๐
I am going to see it on Saturday night, but at 8 p.m. I would never be able to do midnight…I am so lame!
Glad you had a fun time!
