Tonight, while manning a merchant’s booth at the local county fair, I spent four hours
1. Trying to get people to stop by my booth
2. Telling those who would stop about my product and
3. Entertaining myself with people watching. I watched people of all shapes, sizes, and hairdos walk past for an entire evening and learned a great deal from my fellow fair goers.
Here are a few of the key lessons learned:
1. If you’re going to add bling to go to the fair, go all out. Could there be a better accessory than a gold, sequined fanny pack? Keep your belongings secure in style.
4. It’s hot out, so no matter your body type or age, tube tops (preferably with sequins) or two skimpy, layered tank tops are a must. If there was an official fair uniform, a tube top combined with micro shorts would be it.
5. All teenagers are required to stop at the right to life booth, call their friends over, and handle the displays.
6. Fair food is only good if you overload your arms and nearly spill half of it on the way to your destination.
7. If you’re going to get your child’s face painted, do it at the end of the evening, when your little one is the most tuckered out, most likely to fall asleep on the way home, and will probably show it to no one.
8. There’s no bed time for the fair (or grocery shopping at Walmart). It’s perfectly natural for babies and toddlers to be cruising the fair at 10 pm.
Truly, I had a great time chatting with all kinds of people at the fair. It’s funny watching couples of all ages holding hands, laughing together, and having a fantastic time. I love watching kids collect cheap giveaways along the way and act like they’ve amassed a treasure. I’m excited to spend way too much money taking my kids to the fair tomorrow!
And, my favorite part of the fair: When a sweet women saw my name and said ‘You’re Mindy. I read you all the time!” (in reference to the local, weekly paper I write for). And then, as she was leaving, “It was really nice to meet you!” I have a fan. She absolutely made my night, my week, my month!

I love fairs! People watching is always entertaining at these events. I like to go just so I can get a candy apple.
ROFL!
I love that you have a fan and she recognized you! Too cool!
And people watching at the fair – an all time favorite of mine. So funny. Probably tied with the airport for my all time favorite people watching.
