When Oransi contacted me about trying out their detergent, Robby Wash, I was intrigued. Their little ball of detergent, with it’s three replacement packs, is touted to last a consumer over 120 washes and up to one year. This product seemed ideal for the Lazy Environmentalist Test: eco-friendly, easy to use, and money saving.
Here are a few of the product’s impressive features:
1. Eco-Friendly Packaging: One Robby Ball can be refilled and used for 2 to 3 years. The ball comes in minimal packaging and includes enough wash and refills to last through 120 washes. Refills that use very little packaging can then be purchased for further uses. No huge boxes or containers to later recycle or throw away. The only way the company could improve their packaging would be to put refills in something other than plastic and ship in boxes made out of recycled materials.
2. Money Savings: Oranisi says that a traditional load of laundry costs $1, but is less than .25 cents per load with Robby Wash.
3. Hypoallergenic and Baby Safe: This is important at my house because we have sensitive skin and I have basically used All Free and Clear exclusively for years because of my own sensitivity.
4. Eco-friendly: One 10 ounce Robby Ball Equals 75+ pounds of laundry detergent that you are not putting down the pipes. Robby Wash Meets the strict environmental compliance requirements of Europe (more stringent than U.S.) and contains no phosphates or chlorine. Has received safety certifications from REACH and RoHS. Each ball is made of durable ABS materials.
5. Affordable: At $32.95 (plus shipping) for 120 loads, this product will definitely save money over traditional detergents. Every ball also comes with a stain stick.
Oransi is based out of Austin, Texas and is committed to creating green cleaning products and air purifiers. This is what they have to say about their commitment to “green”: We are not green for green’s sake but instead take a green viewpoint if it is the right thing to do. If we can save you money and it helps the environment – that is the right thing to do. That’s why we focus on energy efficiency and have a minimalistic design and feature set. Robby Wash was developed in France and has been popular in Europe for several years. It is now available in the United States for the first time.
I decided to try Robby Wash for myself and determine if the quality matched what I expected from my standard laundry detergent, All Free and Clear, as well as my cloth diaper detergent, Rockin’ Green. After washing several loads of whites, darks, and children’s clothes with the standard blue ball (safe for hot and cold washes), I was pleased with the performance. It’s been great for our sensitive skin, removed stains, etc. The performance on cloth diapers was not quite as good as Rockin’ Green – the stain removing and whitening power wasn’t as good – so I’ll stick with that for my cloth diapers.
The Verdict: Easy to Use, Eco-Friendly, High-Performing, Affordable:
Robby Wash Definitely Passes the Lazy Environmentalist Test.
I’m excited to continue using Robby Wash for my regular loads of laundry and I’m curious to see how long it takes before I need a refill. I like simply keeping the ball in the washing machine and the refills on the shelf without taking up a lot of room with packaging. I also love knowing that I can reuse the ball and eliminate waste.

I would try one of the allergy purifiers if I could! My husband has allergies and my son seems to be following right behind him.

My green tip would be one of the easiest…turn off lights and water when not using them. :]
I would say that despite a seemingly higher start up cost, most green ways will end up saving after they have paid for themselves.
Following you on twitter as BabesRockinMami (I thought I already was but I was wrong!)
I would love to have the v-hepa Air Purifier. Maybe it can get the smell out of my basement.

green life tip
keep at least one reusable bag in the car, so you don’t forget to bring it to stores.
Small things counts!
becoming more eco-friendly is too costly or difficult?
I will tell them how much money you can save cloth diapering!
I would also tell them how easy it is to use cloth diapers.

Every step we have made to go “greener” has already began to pay us back. You dont have to take huge steps to make a difference. Start small, everyone has to start somewhere. Make a change a month, you dont have to go ALL THE WAY in a day.

My first tip is always buy local and recycle.
When people have a negative reaction, I just smile and say that I want to see my LuLu have a safe, clean and healthy environment for her kids.

For someone that wants to adapt to a more green lifestyle I would have to tell them to research and be positive and patient. I’m trying to adapt my family and myself and have just been learning as I go. I also believe that finding people who live the green lifestyle are always willing to lend a hand or suggest productrs/comanies/ideas when they can.
