Knickernappies Cloth Diaper Review

Last month, I participated in a twitter party hosted by The Eco Chic and Knickernappies.  These parties are a fun, casual way to talk cloth, learn about retailers, meet new twitter friends, and even win fabulous prizes.  In addition to the prizes offered by Knickernappies, many of their retailers also offered up gift certificates to their stores.  When my twitter tag @InquisitiveMom showed up as a winner of The Nappy Shoppe $25 Gift Certificate, I was thrilled!


It seemed only appropriate to use my gift certificate to try a Knickernappies one-size pocket cloth diaper for myself, so I ordered one of their one-size, side-snapping diapers for my guy in red.  Once I received the diaper in the mail, I was immediately impressed by the super soft inner fleece layer and the famous Loopy Do inserts. Also, the generous sizing and double snaps made me sure this was a diaper that would fit my growing boy. Needless to say, I was excited to try this diaper out!



I decided to review the diaper and share my thoughts on The Inquisitive Mom.  When I shared the idea of adding a giveaway to my review with both Knickernappies and The Nappy Shoppe, they both agreed to participate in a giveaway on my blog! So, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m hosting a double Knickernappies giveaway! The first half will cover the basic features and daytime use and will feature a giveaway from Knickernappies. The second will cover night/nap time use and feature a giveaway from The Nappy Shoppe.


Absorbency: Knickernappies is an ideal, absorbent day time diaper. My son can comfortably wear a Knickernappie for several hours. It’s terrific for day time use and the Loopy Do inserts do an excellent job of absorbing the moisture.


Fit: This is the second side-snapping diaper I’ve tried. I like the double snaps because my son is currently struggling with needing his diaper to fit less snugly around his thighs and more snugly around his waist. With two rows of snaps, I can do the lower ones first on a looser setting and then the higher snaps second a bit tighter. I am a bit undecided about side snaps – I like the way they give the front of the diaper a cleaner look, but it is a bit trickier to eye the right fit. As for the sizing itself, I am very impressed. Ezra weighed in at the 25 lb range last check-up and he’s a tall boy and he isn’t using the largest setting yet.


Cost: If you are familiar with my reviews, you know I am not too thrilled by the cost of cloth diapers. My Knickernappie was $24.95 with two Loopy Do inserts. If you purchase the diaper with microfiber inserts, it is $19.95. While I prefer a diaper to be under $18, I do think that the addition of two top-rated inserts is a good value, especially since some retailers charge as much as $8 for inserts and $25 or more for a diaper. Also, with 4 size adjustments to fit babies from 8 to 40 lbs, a Knickernappies diaper is truly one size.


Durability: I am very impressed by the way the diaper has remained soft, the color vibrant, and (with snaps) snag free. It is stain free so far (a big challenge at our house) and washes and wears well.


Color/Appearance: The Knickernappies cloth diaper comes in a wide variety of colors, from neutral to bold. Many of them would be appropriate for a boy or a girl. I like the clean look that the side-snapping creates for this diaper, as well as the scooped tummy for chubbier babies. When Ezra wears this diaper, he looks comfortable and clearly has great freedom of movement.

  7. I checked out the Knickernappies website and was impressed with the fabrics they use for the construction of the diaper. Maybe this shows my relative inexperience with cloth diapers (yet)because perhaps all diapers use the same things, but the materials Knickernappies use (PUL and non-pill fleece that doesn’t make those annoying little balls) are pretty quality choices!

    as a single mum of twin 4 yr olds and an 8 month old, my fingers are super crossed i win! my daughter ilani is growing out of her dipes! if i do, i would choose Seaspray in a Medium!

  67. I know I would choose a medium. I think I would choose the Spring Green, but I really like the Violet (just not sure I can see it on a boy). :o)

  72. I would like to try a Knickernappies for a few reasons- #1: it’s a popular brand I’ve never tried
    #2: I like side-snaps because it is harder for a toddler to figure out how to get off
    #3: I have (or rather will have in less than 1 month) 2 boys and have found elastic in the front of the diaper is essential for stopping leaks!

  76. I like that the 2G has elastic at the back as well. When I babysit my best friend’s baby, the back is the worst for blowouts! I’d love to take some preventative action for my own baby due in February and a back elastic seems like a great idea!

  136. I would like to try the one size diaper because with the two inserts it seems like the absorbency level can be adjusted. I also like that it goes up to 40 lbs…if these worked on my baby, they could work for the span of his time in diapers!

  173. went to the knickernappies web site and read about the 2g. im most interested in trying them to see how they compare to fuzzibunz–especially the fit (having leakage issues out the legs w FB).

  250. I visited Knickernappies and I’d love to try this diaper because it is a side-snapping diaper. I think that side-snapping diapers look more comfortable for babies that are sitting and crawling and well, bending at the waist at all! Also, I love that every diaper comes with 2 inserts, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about the LoopyDo insert!!
