Ella’s preschool class visited the local airport last Thursday. I decided to take Ezra who is obsessed with planes, trucks, and cars. I have to remember to just go with Ella next time so she can get my full attention. You can see how excited they both were in these photos:
We also had a blast trunk or treating at our church party on Friday and then trick or treating throughout the neighborhood on Saturday. Our town has two nights of trick or treating every year. We decided to go Saturday this year so we didn’t need to go out on Sunday. Ella loved trick or treating this year. We had a friend come along with her 3 year-old and this was their first Halloween because they come from Argentina. Ella liked being the big kid and boldly went from door to door, knocking and calling “trick or treat” before they even opened the doors.
I am so glad Halloween is over. I know the kids love it, but I’m so sick of monitoring candy and saying “You haven’t eaten (breakfast, lunch, dinner). You are going to get a tummy ache!” Thanks to those clever houses who broke up the candy with bubbles, cards, and matchbox cars. Very cool!
Our children’s program at church for 3 to 12 year-olds is called Primary. We attend a sacrament meeting as families each week, then our children go to individual Sunday School classes, followed by a larger sharing time with all ages of kids. Each year, the Primary focuses on a different them and this year their focus was “I Know My Savior Lives.” They were encouraged to learn of Christ, think of Christ while partaking of the sacrament, and to understand Christ’s love for them. At the end of each year, the Primary puts on a program during our Sacrament Meeting.
We were a bit nervous that Ella, only four, might decide she didn’t feel like participating, get nervous, or act silly. We practiced her lines with her, talked excitedly about the program, and really prepped her to participate. Sunday morning, she put on a fancy church dress and was ready to go. We loved watching our sweet girl enthusiastically sing and enunciate with the other kids. My favorite part was when she came up to the podium to share things like “Jesus Christ loves me” and “Jesus went about doing good.”
The program was filled with incredible, lovely, faith-promoting songs as well. There is nothing more beautiful than listening to your child sing beautiful, simple words of praise and testimony such as:
(Imagine each chorus with little voicing rising and emphasizing the words.)
Lines from “I Know That My Savior Loves Me”
I did not touch Him or sit on His knee, Yet Jesus is real to me
Chorus:
I know He lives! I will follow faithfully, My heart I give to Him. I know that My Savior loves Me.”
Lines from “He Sent His Son”
How could the Father tell the world of sacrifice, of death?
He sent his Son to die for us and rise with living breath.
What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say?
Have faith, have hope, live like His Son, help others on their way.
What does He ask? Live like his Son.
Lines from I Feel My Savior’s Love
I feel my Savior’s love; It’s gentleness enfolds me. And when I kneel to pray, my heart is filled with peace.
Chorus:
He knows I will follow him, Give all my life to him.
I feel my Savior’s love, the love He freely gives me.
