My four year-old daughter came home from preschool the other day, excited to tell me about the animal game she played on the computer. Now that she’s a bit older, we enjoy spending time on www.starfall.com and have even connected with a few Hasbro My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake games. These are entertaining, but can become repetitious. I’ve been curious about other educational gaming options online, but wasn’t certain where to begin beyond a Google search.
When lunchboxreviews.com invited me to explore their site, I was intrigued. Lunchbox Reviews offers a one-stop place to search for age-appropriate games and applications for your child. Multiple search options are available, allowing you to do a broad or very narrow search for an application. These include options such as age-range, platform, creative, educational, games, and a combination of all of these. Reviews include both user and critic opinions (when available), as well as screen shots, a detailed description, and links to purchase the application. Free applications are also reviewed.
Seeing the broad range of options available for children on the ipod and ipad made me wish that I owned one of these platforms. I imagined myself waiting an extended time with a child at the doctor’s office or trying to entertain a kid at the grocery store who is bored with the standard activities. It would be fantastic to offer them an electronic coloring book, invite them to practice reading, or simply find them an educational game. Lunchbox Reviews provides a way to sift through the multitude of applications available so that these limited moments in front of a screen throughout the day can be high quality ones.
As I searched through Lunchbox Reviews, I had a small wish-list of things I wish the site offered. The first, of course, would be reviews of games for children available online for PC users. The second would be to have the site remember my search terms if no application is available. For example, if I selected reading applications for preschoolers on an i-pod and none are available, I would love for it to remember my search terms and let me simply adjust one search term without having to add them all in again. My third recommendation would be to add more detailed critic reviews.

I would spend my $25 gift card at http://www.oompa.com on some of the Kitchen products. I have 3-4 products that Marianna will like and I’ll show them to Marianna and let her choose two.
My daughter would love Gertrude McFuzz-Dr. Seuss. She loves The Cat in the Hat and she likes to play on her dads iPad sometimes.
Your right though about how nice it would be for them to have included PC games.
