New Version Doopsy “SD” Cloth Diaper Review

We already enjoy using the Super Doopsy insert as a way to increase the absorbency of our pockets and fitteds. So, I was thrilled to receive a new “SD” version of the Doopsy one-size pocket diaper to review. At first glance, here were some of my positive impressions of the diaper:

* Bright, bold color. We love the orange!
* 2 Rows of snaps for a better fit around the legs and the waist.
* A soft, microfleece inner layer.
* Comes with a 4 layer microfiber insert, as well as a Super Doopsy insert.

We had the opportunity to try the Doopsy pocket diaper during the day, nap, and bed time. Ezra is nearly two, a heavy wetter while sleeping, and in need of a snap diaper that can adjust separately for his legs and waist. The Doopsy definitely met our absorbency needs and I was thrilled with the look of the diaper. We did find the sizing of the diaper to be a bit on the smaller size, especially when stuffed with the Super Doopsy insert. The insert is rather thick, but has not created such a snug fit with some of our more generously sized one-size diapers.

Day: The Doopsy fit Ezra well with the Super Doopsy insert without the extra absorbency pad, allowing me to adjust it properly for a comfortable fit that didn’t leave elastic marks on his legs or gap at the waist. The small, slim microfiber insert since is intended for smaller babies and I felt the diaper was too puffy when stuffed with the Super Doopsy plus the absorbency pad for day. I would prefer the fit to be a bit more generous for my toddler, but he wore it comfortably.

Nap Time: Even though it’s only a couple of hours, Ezra needs extra absorbency at nap time. This is where the extra absorbency pad added to the Super Doopsy makes a difference. The diaper fits a bit snugger, but definitely provides the necessary absorbency, a big plus for us!

Bed Time: As much as I love fitteds and wool, it’s nice to have the simplicity of a pocket for bed time. We’ve had limited success with pockets and night time, however. When I placed all three inserts in with the diaper, it was definitely a tight squeeze. I was worried that the diaper might be too tight or loose because it was a snug fit for our toddler. The next morning, however, Ezra was leak and elastic mark free, a huge plus for the Doopsy! I definitely think the added layer of PUL on the Super Doopsy insert makes a big difference as far as leak prevention.

Washing/Wear/Durability: The Doopsy SD one size pocket cloth diaper washes well without needing any additional care, retaining its softness, as well as vibrant color.

Price: The Doopsy SD is affordable and competitively priced, especially when you consider that you get three absorbency options at around $16.95. Other versions of the diaper are available starting at $13.95 with different insert options.

Overall, I was pleased with the color, appearance, ease of use, price, and absorbency of the Doopsy diaper. It is newer to the market, but I think it holds up against its better-known competitors. The only suggestions I would make for future versions would be a slightly larger fit and inserts that agitate in out the wash on their own.
