The advent of cold weather used to just mean a deluge of sneezing and persistent allergy symptoms for me. The last few falls spent in the midwest have introduced a whole new issue for me – extremely dry, cracked, itchy skin. I turn to the most sensitive moisturizing washes I can find and I’ve tried multiple lotions. These help temporarily, but I haven’t found a good long-term solution.
Skin MD contacted me about their Natural Shielding Lotion while I was in the midst of extremely dry skin, including painful, cracked, bleeding knuckles. When Skin MD described a lotion that is lightweight, made of natural ingredients, and intended to not only address current dryness, but protect against future problems, I was intrigued. They kindly offered to send me a bottle to try and I eagerly agreed.
My first impression of the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion was very positive. This natural lotion has a very subtle fragrance and a very sheer, lightweight feel. Unlike thicker lotions, you don’t put it on and then struggle to rub continuously to remove anything heavy or greasy. Skin MD recommends the Natural Shielding lotion for individuals who cook, wash dishes, and garden because it helps retain moisture in the face of soaps and chemicals. I’d add diaper changing to that list, with the regular hand washing that follows.
I followed the product’s directions to initially use it every 2 hours at first to assist with the healing/protecting process. While the product brochure shared many stories of individuals who used this product to solve eczema problems, I found that it simply could not fully assist me with my severely dry skin. I went ahead and requested a prescription cream from my physician. Once this cream helped my hands heal and get to a more balanced state, I then found that Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion worked as promised. This is definitely a go-to product to restore and retain moisture. Using it assists my hands in absorbing moisture, then products them against future irritants.
Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion is also a unique product because it is produced using 100% solar energy power. The lotion is also vegan and cruelty-free, making it an eco-conscious choice.

Mindy,
I would LOVE to try this cream. I have thyroid issues which cause me to have super dry skin, plus we have brutal winter temperatures. I have about 22 different bottles of lotion in my bathroom cabinet and am so tired of trying all these different ones. Because I have kids and hubs is a doctor, we’re a frequent hand-washing kind of family. So that doesn’t help. I’m curious to check this out…..

I’d love to have this because our dry Michigan weather is really doing a number on all of our hands. Also, my son is potty training which means I wash my hands every time he goes potty too, plus with every time I change my daughter, plus when I’m cooking, and so on. Basically, I’d love some good lotion!
