When I purchased my starter stash a year and a half ago, I had to weigh my budget against my cloth diapering needs. I had a dream stash that far exceeded my budget and an idea of which diapers I was comfortable purchasing at that time. With a firm idea of the number of diapers and the specific accessories I felt were necessary to effectively begin cloth-diapering, I bought some higher end diapers, combined with more economically priced ones. My main wish at the time: That I had access to a wider selection of quality low-cost diapers.

In the short time since I purchased that initial stash, the cloth diapering community has grown and expanded, as has my knowledge of the variety of options available. My personal cloth diapering philosophy is still about variety in styles, patterns, and price-points. It’s also much easier to introduce people to the cloth diapering investment when there are options available below $20. Finding a diaper in the $10 to $15 dollar range seems to be increasingly more difficult, however, so my interest was definitely peaked when I heard about Go Green Pocket Diapers.

Go Green is a family-owned business that offers adorable pocket diapers in prints, solids, and fuzzy fabrics starting at 8.99. Their standard one-size diapers include snaps, one insert, and a 15 day wash n wear policy. Leah, the owner of Go Green and a WAHM, began cloth diapering when she had 3 in diapers at once. The cost, combined with the heaps of trash they produced, bothered Leah. She decided to look into cloth and loved pockets, but not the cost. She looked into more cost-effective ways to produce diapers and came up with Go Green Pocket Diapers. According to Lea, “They’re better for babies, better for bank accounts, and better for the environment.”

Go Green recently introduced their newest diaper, The Champ. I was thrilled by the opportunity to try this diaper, which incorporates many of my favorite diaper features, priced at an affordable $14.95. When you compare the features in this diaper to other brands, you often pay $10 to $15 more, depending on whether or not the inserts and patterns are extra. The Champ, on the other hand, has two rows of waist snaps, an extra row of rise snaps, waist tab overlap snaps, and comes with two bamboo-microfiber blend 3-layer inserts.

My Experience with the Go Green Pocket Diapers Champ:
I received a Champ in Sunny, an incredibly bright diaper with rows of snaps in a delightful array of colors. The Champ is soft on the inside and includes two pocket openings, making it simple to stuff. There is also a snap on the insert, so your diaper (which doesn’t need to be removed before washing) can remain with your diaper. This is a very clever time saver!

The Champ is sized very generously and Ezra, at 2 years old and probably nearing 30 pounds, is no where near exceeding this diaper’s limits. I am eager to try this diaper out on our newborn this spring and see how it works on a smaller baby. The double row of snaps is ideal for Ezra because he needs a separate setting on the legs and waist for a proper fit. With the multi-colored snaps, I like that I could actually color-code the snap settings for a babysitter to help them get the right fit. My only complaint is that the sizing actually creates a bit of actual bulk because it is so roomy around the waist.

The Champ has easily met our day time needs with one insert and our nap-time needs with two. I expect that it would also be a great night-time solution for a smaller baby, especially because the generous sizing allows for extra stuffing. For Ezra’s heavy-wetter needs and winter-time footed jammies, however, a heavily stuffed pocket isn’t an ideal solution. We have been leak-free using the diaper, it has washed incredibly well, and looks and feels new after repeated use. Add the affordable price point and this diaper definitely stands up to its higher-priced competitors.

Overall, I am very impressed with The Champ and would happily add additional Go Green Pocket Diapers to my stash. I definitely think the diaper lives up to Leah’s promise and plan to try some of the basic diapers in the future.
