A group of women I’ve met through church, the YMCA, mom’s groups, etc., have a standing girl’s night out on the first Tuesday of every month. We meet around 8:45 pm or so to sit down and enjoy Applebee’s half price appetizers in one of their enormous booths. I love this. The kids are in bed and I get the opportunity to hang with my husband for a bit before heading out to enjoy some down time with the ladies.
Two of us in the group are pregnant, the other mom with twin girls. Our fabulous friends got together and treated us to the ideal gift for a mom-to-be: a one hour, full body massage and babysitting so we could also go out to dinner with our husbands. My turn came last Tuesday and my massage was truly a bit of heaven. My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing, kid-free dinner. On our way home, he surprised me by saying, “Let’s get you a new phone.”
Not quite 2 years ago, we both bought new phones out of necessity. My current phone simply didn’t work and his was on a downward spiral. We were looking for ways to cut back expenses, so it was a no data plan moment for us. We really wanted to buy smartphones capable of doing more and simply wait to buy data plans, but the new policy nixed this. So, we settled for simpler phones that we both quickly disliked – well, Tim despised his so much, he eventually went back to his patched up phone until it simply refused to work.
Tim’s offer was especially sweet considering the fact that he isn’t eligible for an upgraded phone until May. We walked into Radio Shack and I felt overwhelmed by the fancy options. In these moments, I always want there to be a clear stand-out phone that calls “Pick me! Pick me!” Ultimately, I went with the Motorola Atrix 4G and it makes my old phone look like an Atari!
The Motorola Atrix 4G is jam-packed with features I don’t need, but love. I’ve only had it a week, but I’m not sure how I used my other phone for so long.
Oh, fancy new phone, how I love thee. Let me count the ways:
1. I can connect it to my wireless internet at home, access all of my email accounts (with quick links to new messages), facebook, and twitter. I had to remove twitter, however, because the phone was notifying me way too often!
2. I can unlock my phone with a finger print swipe, jam-pack it with music, and upload a myriad of free applications and games.
3. I can use my phone to listen to tunes, have a two-way camera conversation with someone, take pictures, read books, study my scriptures, and waste endless hours playing games.
4. I’m sure I can say two words and anyone with a iphone or android will know what I’m talking about: Angry Birds. So addictive. Such a waste of time. But I can’t stop.
5. I can add applications to entertain the kids in a doctor’s waiting room, set a timer for time-out, or play them their favorite tunes.
6. There’s a microphone for texting or updating your facebook status and it actually works well. Most of the time.
7. When I’m not using the phone, it’s sure to be in my husband’s hands. He’s like a kid in a candy store.

New phones are so much fun! Although my son and I have the same phone and I still don’t know how to make it do half of what his does! LOL He’s slowly teaching me…

ooooh! congrats, Mindy! I’m jealous. I’m desperate for a fancy new phone…Enjoy!
I’ve never owned a cell phone because I don’t like ’em. I don’t like house phones either. If it weren’t for our ailing mothers I wouldn’t have that either. LOL BUT! You make me wanna go get one just for the “fun” of it!! haha

I am quite familiar with that Angry Birds app. I love my smartphone. The kid apps are fantastic to. Most of my apps are to entertain the kids in fact. They love that they can watch YouTube on my phone to. Enjoy your new phone!
