Sew Sweet Car Seat Canopy Review

It’s a blustery day and the wind is cutting through the gaps in the car seat cover, making baby chilly.

It’s a hot summer day and you want to keep the sun out of baby’s eyes and protect her from the heat without overheating her.

The day is damp and chilly and the blanket you’ve thrown over the car seat to provide extra protection against the elements keeps slipping.

Baby has finally gone to sleep and you have to slip him into the car seat for the ride home. You want to shield him from excessive light and noise.

I think every parent has experienced a variation of one or all of these situations. When you do, all you want is a quick, easy, no-fuss solution. The hands-free cover is made of two layers of soft 100% cotton flannel, making it a durable cover to protect against sun, wind, rain, and cold.

Kayla sent me this terrific gender-neutral canopy cover in brown and cream. We’ve been using it with Kai’s new car seat for nearly 2 weeks now and I love it! At first, I was a bit worried that the flannel fabric might be too hot for the summer weather, but so far it’s been great for keeping out the sun. Since it doesn’t sit against baby, it provides a nice shield from the sun (and even car air conditioning) without overheating him. I usually slip the cover down when we’re traveling outside and then shift it up in the car.

I’ve always disliked the hassle of throwing a blanket over the car seat because it constantly shifts and also prefer not to have the blanket right over baby’s face. With the canopy, you don’t have to worry about either of these issues. The canopy connects around the car seat handle, creating an unobtrusive layer for baby, and it can be easily flipped up and over when not in use. Kayla also says that the car seat canopy has been a versatile item for her travels, moonlighting as a warm blanket, changing pad, and play mat. I also imagine that the cover provides a great way to send a “hands off” message when you have your baby resting in the car seat in a public place and don’t want her to be disturbed!
