This really is the last sale. No really…until tomorrow.
Signing up for email offers and “liking” business facebook pages has jaded me to sales a bit. Don’t get me wrong. I love a good sale. Throw in free shipping and the sale is nearly irresistible. Email sales and special offers daily from companies such as Company Kids, Toys R Us, and The Children’s Place have made me realize that I can resist until I actually need something, though. Add Zulily, Plum District, and Totsy (where I can shamelessly link up to refer others in posts like this and get referral credit) and I have to resist. I could find something to purchase at a discount daily without every leaving my computer chair.
The constant sale also creates the feeling of always wondering if I should wait for a better deal to come along and it can keep me from hitting that “complete transaction” button at the bottom of my cart. Case in point: stockings I’ve been stalking at Company Kids. I guessed they’d go on sale for Black Friday. So I waited and they were, plus free shipping and 15% off. In fact, I purchased some for my kids, then went back to get them for my husband and I, sure this was the best deal of the season. Then Cyber Monday they offered 20% off and free shipping and extended it through today. My one consolation: It looks like they’re not on sale, plus the percentage off today.
It’s a good thing I can’t justify buying more cloth diapers right now, either. I wouldn’t have know how to choose between the amazing deals offered all weekend through the many small and big retailers I follow on facebook. I probably would have wasted hours of my life comparing prices for the same items because I wanted the very best deal. I’m sure this will be me next time I’m expecting a baby.
I did ultimately do virtually all of my Christmas shopping virtually. My older son also has a birthday this month, so I ordered some birthday gifts as well. Over the past two days, we’ve had packages delivered from both the postman and the UPS man. I think this will be a regular pattern up until Christmas. And who doesn’t love getting packages?
I’m grateful for the sales, always up for a discount, and regularly scouting for offers. Many of these great deals made it possible to buy my kids some items they will flip over for Christmas. I didn’t, however, wait for a major shopping day to buy them. The truth is, who do the retailers think they’re kidding? They’ll be sales all the way up until Christmas and the same items will be discounted again come New Years.
Yes, they try to suck us in with every sale being “the lowest of the season”, but I don’t buy it either – they will have sales every day, every weekend until Christmas. I’m trying to do more of my shopping online this year and trying for the best deals I can. I stay happier when I’m not out in the crowds, unless I’m just out looking at decorations! 🙂
