I stopped checking the clock long ago. It only wakes my mind up, where my body only vaguely checks in otherwise. All I know is this: I’d been in dreamland several hours before Ezra arrived in our room, abruptly disturbing my sleep with his frantic demands for a rope. “Get a rope, Dad! Get a rope!” Ah, if I must be woken up, this is the best kind. I heard the call for Dad and immediately rolled over.
Then came the nudge from beside me. “Mindy, tell him you’re okay.” Hmmm? Apparently, I’d fallen down the sink and Ezra had commenced a serious rescue mission. I reassured him that I was actually in bed and he returned to his room with surprisingly little resistance. Ezra returned to our room at least twice more, each time insisting on a rope. While I appreciated his concern, all I really wanted was to be saved from the starring role in his dream.
The next morning at breakfast, the evening’s activities became a bit more clear. I am apparently a very careless woman. While innocently reaching for a spoon in the kitchen sink, I tripped, and fell into the fathomless depths of the drain. Ezra discovered my predicament, enlisted Ella’s help, and they rescued me by rope (with no help from Dad, I might add).
Ezra proceeded to lecture me – repeatedly – about not falling into the sink throughout the day. He was even kind enough to check in with me periodically, asking “Are you okay, Mom?” This kid must have some pretty amazing dreams.
I tried to explain the difference between dreams and reality. He was having none of it. I even resorted to telling him my mom taught me not to fall into the kitchen sink. Grandma was there to back me up, but that still didn’t cut it. Ezra would not rest until I’d learned my lesson.
Tim suggested that it would be funny to go into the bathroom, climb into the sink, and call to our son for help. That crossed the cruelty line and might scar him for life, I said. Then I briefly considered leaving a photo montage of his dream laying around – “Oh, no! Mom, where are you? It’s happening again!” – that would look something like this:

Reading blogs with Nate and laughed at the pictures. He said ‘whats that momma?’ So I explained mommys blog friend Mindy is a silly mommy. So now he is running around saying I’m a silly mommy too haha
This literally made me laugh out loud…then tell my husband and laugh again. Kids are so funny.
omg, that’s hilarious. I was cracking up!
Best post ever. I am giving it a stumble for you 🙂 Hysterical!
I’m several days behind here, but that is SO funny! (not the being woken up part, though) 🙂 Those pictures are great!
Mindy, This is hilarious. I loved the pictures. You are so creative and I think Ezra has a creative mind as well.
