Three years and two kids in cloth diapers later, I’m not quite as enthusiastic about cd laundry as I used to be. This means that there are times when I have two loads to fold at once and nearly every diaper clean at the same time. I go to fold and find myself organizing diapers in the drawer, my least favorites toward the back and the ones I want to use first toward the front. I also seperate diapers between fitteds/covers/wool in one drawer and pockets and aios in another.
There’s a plethroa of variables to consider when recommending cloth diapers: budget, style, ease of use, patterns, fit, and more. I have quite a few styles, colors, brands, and price points in my cd stash. I’ve also added a few new additions to the mix lately, thanks to giveaways and free diapers with purchase. A few months ago, I thought I’d solidified my favorites, but these new finds have surprised me.
Sometimes the choices we instinctively make are the best, most authentic recommendations we can make. So, I thought it would be fun – and hopefully informative – to share the top five diapers making their way to the front of my diaper stash.
1. Kawaii One-Size Original Cross-Over Squared Tabbed Pocket Diaper – A friend of mine transitioned from pockets to fitteds and covers, but received one of these for free with an order from Kelly’s Closet. She generously gave it to me to use and, as always, the idea of trying out a new brand intrigued me. Plus, who doesn’t love adding a new diaper to their stash?
To be honest, the inexpensive appearance of the package wasn’t initially appealing, but once I opened the diaper, I liked the soft inner lining and loved the luxuriously soft inserts. I suspected that this larger one-size diaper might be a poor fit on my tall, skinny baby, but it’s actually been terrific. The diaper looks like it might be bulky, but it actually has a relatively slim fit and the crossover snaps allow for a very accurate, secure fit.
We’ve never had any leaks with this diaper, it doesn’t leave marks on baby’s legs, it’s comfy, absorbent, and the colors are rich and appealing. I loved it so much, I took a chance buying detergent from Kelly’s Closet (now that they carry Eco Sprout) so I could qualify for a free diaper. I was thrilled when another Kawaii came my way with this purchase and I put one in the diaper bag and another in the front of the drawer whenever they are both clean!
2. Sweet Pea One Size Diaper Cover – I won this diaper cover during a twitter party from Eyla’s Imports and, after trying it, I am surprised to find myself seeking it out. In fact, this cover has reignited my interest in covers and fitteds for daytime use. It has a great, lightweight feel, and a well-performing snap system that allows for a specific fit. The cover also features leg gussets, making it a great companion to a superior fitted such as Nifty Nappies or Baby Kicks.
3. Baby Kicks One Size Organic Fitted – BabyKicks invited fans to become Ambassadors for their product and I am very excited by the opportunity to be associated with them! For my first product, I decided to test the One Size Organic Fitted and I’ve come to appreciate a variety of unique features. I’m always a bit dubious about side snaps, but I appreciate the smooth look of this diaper without snap bulk in front. I also love that it comes with color codes snaps – and a lot of them – allowing for a snug, comfortable, leak-free fit.
The Baby Kicks fitted also has a very trim fit that works well on my slim baby and helped me overcome any hesitation I’ve felt about using fitteds and covers for day. I also like the optional pocket in the front, allowing the option to suff extra inserts for your heavy wetter. It’s always difficult to put extra inserts between a cover and fitted with a super-squirmy toddler, so this makes diaper change much simpler.
4. Rumparooz G2 One Size – Rumparooz gussets make me happy. I won two of these diapers at a twitter party a few months back in phantom and robotronics, plus a new wet bag (love!). Rumparooz are simply a top-quality all-around pocket in my opinion. They are super soft, provide excellent absorbency, have gussets to combat leaks of all kinds, and fit well. These make it to the top of my pile, I suppose, because they’re the diaper I would choose to wear if I were a baby.
5. Bum Genius Freetime – If I could do things all over again and see into the future, I would skip pockets and go straight to AIOs. I love that great AIOs are now comparably priced to pockets, making them a terrific way to grow your stash. I know it seems funny that I haven’t placed this diaper at #1 for this reason, but I only have one and the fit isn’t quite as good on my little guy as some of hte pockets. That being said, I adore the convenience of this one size diaper without the hassle of stuffing or removing inserts. Plus, the Albert print is adorable!

I missed the giveaway! But, I did just place an order with the cloth diaper outlet last night! Hoping I like it as much as I like the idea of it!
Isn’t it funny? Only one diaper on your top 5 is also on my top 5.. and some of your others are specifically diapers I gave away because I disliked them so much!
After cd’ing 4 biological kids and now many foster babies, I think I have almost everything (or did at some point) in my stash. I can never narrow it down, because my mood changes and different days I prefer different styles.
There are quite a few diaper brand that we have yet to try. We recently got 2 Kawaii diapers and love them! They are super soft and I love that they have the little strip of PUL st the top of the belly. For my belly sleeper it really helps to keep the leaks away!
