Versatility is the buzzword for new cloth diaper brands on the market today.
While some brands focus on a unique feature or fabric that elevates the pocket or the flat, several are looking to distinguish themselves by redefining diaper categories altogether. Rock-a-Bums is one of these new stars on the market, pushing past traditional diaper definition and offering what many customers crave the most: options.
Rock-a-Bums’ 5-in-1 cloth diaper, boasts the most options I’ve ever seen claimed in one diaper. It’s marketed as an All-in-One (AIO), All-in-Two (AI2), Pocket, Hybrid, and Cover. The idea is for consumers to only ever need one diaper style to meet their family’s diverse needs, which appeals to me. Perhaps mom prefers the simplicity of an AIO, but dad likes adjusting the absorbency of a pocket, and grandma requests a disposable insert. With Rock-a-Bums, you can please everyone with one diaper.
I recieved a Rock-a-Bums one-size diaper to try with my 2 year-old and it included a cover with a soft gray fleece lining and two reusable micro-fiber and bamboo charcoal inserts. Since this diaper includes two inserts, you can reuse the diaper twice (as packaged) before putting it in the wash, unless the poop spreads to the outer cover. With a 5 pack of inserts offered for $24.95, this makes it a very affordable AI2 option. We were able to reuse the diaper cover when no solids were involved, but while the cover effectively contained solids, they always spread beyond the insert.
I’ve wanted to try charcoal bamboo for some time because I’ve heard great things about it. I was immediately impressed by the softness of this fabric, as well as the cover’s inner fleece liner. Both lost a minimal amount of softness after washing, but I would still consider this one of our coziest diapers. The gray color appealed to me and I honestly wish more diapers used inner fabrics and inserts in colors other than white. Due to the color and the nature of the fabric lining, I found that solids came off this diaper easily and it resisted staining.
The Rock-a-Bums definitely offers a great deal of versatility for an affordable $16.95. I will say that, while it can be called a 5-in-1, other diapers defined in one category can offer the same features. For example, any pocket diaper can be a cover over a disposable diaper (as advertised on Rock-a-Bums web page) or lined with a disposable insert. Rock-a-Bums also prides itself on needing no research or fancy instructions, but I would say many cloth diaper families would be hard pressed to explain a discernible difference between the AIO and the AI2 based on the included instructions. Additionally, hybrid inserts do not come with the diaper and they are not currently available on the website.
Overall, I like the price, generous fit, and bold colors with contrasting snaps. It fits comfortably on our
tall, trim toddler with plenty of room to grow. Our experience has been leak and blow-out free, primarily using the diaper as an AIO with the insert snapped in.

Great review. I mean to contact them when we get close to baby’s arrival.
Sounds and looks like an awesome diaper. The only thing missing is double leg gussets!
This looks really neat & super affordable! I’m surprised nobody has thought of this before! 🙂
I would love to try this diaper out, but we’re tight in the finance department right now.
Looks like a nice diaper. I have been wanting to try charcoal bamboo too!
Such a lovely post! I love cloth diapers because they are so freaking cute, better for my little boy than paper diapers, better for the enviroment, and saves LOTS of money.
