An active toddler provides a unique challenge for a diaper. How easy is it to place, adjust, and secure the diaper on a moving target? Will it stay leak and gap free while your toddler crawls, climbs, rolls, and walks? And – the big question every parent dreads – can it contain the mess when your little one isn’t feeling well?
A Diaper with Options: I like for diapers to have options and the Lalabye Baby 2.0 diaper can be used as a pocket or an AI2. The 2.0 version features snaps on each end of the insert. These snaps connect with coordinating snaps at the front and back of the diaper.
Connect to one side, slip the insert under the pocket, and connect on the other side and you have a pocket.
Connect to one side, slip the insert over the pocket, and you have an AI2.
If you need extra absorbency, you can also snap the booster/newborn insert to the area where you need it the most – generally, the back for girls and the front for boys.
Luxurious Feeling Fabrics: When we used our Lalabye Baby as an AI2, I liked the idea of the silky soft bamboo inserts up against my baby’s sensitive skin. I appreciate that Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial and won’t hold odors as well.
When we used the Lalabye Baby as a pocket, I liked having the super soft Suedecloth interior next to baby’s skin, effectively wicking away moisture. The Suedecloth also amazed me when it came to rinsing and washing an especially soiled diaper. Waste came off easily during rinsing and the Suedecloth came out of the wash unstained and like new.
Hold Up Well in the Wash: Some cloth diapers arrive soft, but pill or become less cozy after washing. I really appreciated how soft and white the fabrics remained post wash.
A well-placed snap can make a big difference in the wash, saving you stuffing later. I hoped that the Lalabye Baby 2.0 snap would mean no searching for inserts post wash. The insert did become unattached, but it’s unique fabric made it easy to locate. While this disappointed, the dual openings did the insert to agitate out naturally, meaning no touching wet inserts during laundry prep.
Fit for Different Body Types: Kai is a slender toddler and the Lalabye Baby fits him with the rise snapped in the middle and the waist snaps to the middle as well. I worried that this wide diaper wouldn’t fit him well or leak, but we had no issues. The generous width of the diaper did give Kai a little extra bulk around the bottom as well, making me curious about the fit on small babies. If you have a chunkier baby (like Kai’s older siblings), this diaper would definitely be a great choice.
When it comes to fit, I really appreciated the snapping insert. I like the AI2 and AIO concept, but find the inserts tend to shift. This can be true with wider pocket diapers as well, where inserts can shift or even fold during movement. The front and back snaps keep the insert in place, meaning baby has comfortable, consistent coverage everywhere.
If you’re hesitant about snaps or new to cloth diapers, you’ll appreciate the rainbow snaps on these diapers. You can figure out baby’s current sizing, then tell a babysitter or friend what colored snaps to choose for a quick and easy fit!
Overall, I think the Lalabye Baby 2.0 is a versatile diaper with great color and pattern options (and the best color names!) and luxurious feeling fabrics at a very reasonable price.
