1. Curious George – When PBS announced that George would be springing into spring, I found myself

on the PBS website trying to figure out when my local station would show our favorite primate’s new movie. When the day finally arrived and my kids opted to play in the sun instead of watching George, I admit to being secretly disappointed.

2. My Big Big Friend – Seriously. Why is there only one season of this show? All three of my children love these little rascals and their imaginary friends and I don’t mind having it on…except the same 16 episodes can only go on repeat. The Canadian cast for this Brazilian import is stellar, the animations are fun, and the friends deal with issues like sharing, eating new foods, and moving without veering into Calliou annoyance.

3. Pingu – This stop-action claymation show from Switzerland just might be a favorite because there’s
no dialogue, just fun animation. These silly penguins and their friends have their own language of honks, so there’s no whining kids or perfect parents. Pingu gets into all kinds of mischief in silly, short episodes that will make you smile and somehow manages to convey some real emotion too.

4. Turbo Fast – My boys watched the Turbo movie and it became an obsession. Each day, they would wake up asking to watch and sing “That snail is fast!” When Netflix announced this companion series, I couldn’t help but be excited for some new turbo. At first glance, the animation in this series leave quite a bit to be desired and the boys were dubious. They’re now addicted, though, and I can see why. This series has their favorite characters (with new actor voices) doing over the top, ridiculous things in short segments. I really want to dislike this series – it’s just so ridiculous – but I find myself laughing despite myself. All I ask is that Netflix please make some more episodes – Fast!

5. Eloise: The Animated Series – Maybe I’m crazy for adding this
one. Reading Eloise books can be an excruciating experience, after all. But this fun series captivates the attention of all three of my kids, features a strong female lead, and involves some engaging plot twists. Eloise is certainly imperfect, but I think that’s why we like her. A bit self-centered, overly curious, and stubborn, Eloise reminds me of a few kids I know. Plus, she doesn’t have a bunch of “yes” adults in her life and they aren’t always patient with her antics. Reminds me of a few adults I know.
