I often have a love/hate relationship with Legos and children under 8 years old. I love them because they inspire creativity, encourage problem solving, and help develop fine motor skills. I hate them because building with Lego sets that appeal to my kids after about the age of 4 generally involves me building and becoming frustrated while they lose small parts and interest. This is one of the reasons I love Lego Duplos, but my 5 and 7 year-old are attracted to more complex sets.
When I learned about Lego Juniors, specially designed for ages 4 to 7, I was eager to introduce them to my kids. These sets have the more sophisticated designs my kids crave, with less pieces and easy instructions. With Lego Juniors, building was truly a group effort and just as fun as playing with the constructed toys!
Lego Juniors made an awesome after-school activity for our family! I appreciated how the instructions were easy enough for my 4 year-old to follow along and how each building section had their parts pre-packaged and labeled.
We pulled one section out at a time, opened the bag, and tackled the instructions together. Each child would take a turn piecing a section of parts together, eagerly watching their sibling, and then looking ahead to prepare for their turn. Even our nearly 3 year-old joined in the fun with his big sister showing him how to assemble the parts!
Lego Juniors are still Lego toys, so you need to be prepared to collect small parts and assist with reassembly along the way. Storage solutions are also important, so this doesn’t become a one time activity due to lost parts.
My favorite part of all of this, the part that sold me on Lego Juniors: I built the police station, motorcycle, and police car with the kids. When I needed to step away to make dinner, the kids pulled out the Digger set, followed the instructions, and put together all 75 pieces without assistance!
Have you tried Lego Juniors? What was your experience?

I love how thorough your reviews are, you always know just what to expect from a product after you’ve reviewed it.
Not yet because I hadn’t heard of them! Nate loves legos but it can be frustrating at times, for all of us, when he can’t figure it out on his own or has to ask for help. They take time to build!!
