“Crunchy” Moms Raved About It
Younique first came on my radar about 6 months ago, when friends and family started posting close ups of their eyelash transformations on Facebook. These posts intrigued first of all because of the dramatic lengthening of their lashes and secondly because many of these posts came from friends I consider a little bit “crunchy.” These were cloth diapering, essential oil using, natural remedy seeking moms.
A Skeptics Research
I decided to look into Younique a bit more, including checking out their ingredients and asking friends if it was really worth the price. I visited the About Younique page and found this information, “Younique begins by looking to Mother Nature for the inspiration behind our cosmetics. Our in-house scientific team then formulates a product that honors that inspiration while delivering cutting-edge cosmetics. Our goal is to use science to help nature provide healthy, clean, and pure cosmetics, without fillers or junk.”
What’s Inside
I also looked at the 3D Fiber Ingredient list and discovered a clear goal to offer a more natural make-up solution, with some products vegan and gluten-free, and no products tested on animals. This, combined with my friend’s honest passion for the product, made it a great product to review for The Inquisitive Mom blog and to offer as a special treat to moms in the 4th Time Around Baby Shower Event, coming in November and co-hosted by Maxwell Designs!
How Do Younique 3D Lashes Work?
Did you know that Younique 3D Lashes are not technically a mascara? You can use them effectively without any mascara, if you prefer to skip that step entirely. You can also use in addition to your favorite mascara to amplify the look.
Step 1 (Optional): Apply your favorite mascara and let it dry. I use a simple $1 mascara from elf.
Step 2: Apply the Moodstruck Transplanting Gel to your lashes.
Step 3: Immediately apply the Moodstruck Natural Fibers while the transplanting gel is still wet.
Tips: Make sure you extend the fibers from the tips of your lashes, all the way to the ends to avoid that spider web look.
Step 4: Reapply the Transplanting Gel to secure the natural fibers.
Tip: Make sure to extend the gel from the tip of your lashes, all the way to the end a second time.
Some users repeat this process, but I found one application was enough.
I definitely found a learning curve with this product. I initially used a thicker, wetter base mascara and found that it tended to stay wet longer and mess up the process, smudging black everywhere. Once I changed base mascaras and watched a video for application tips, I had much more success. I did discover that you don’t want to let the fibers fall into your eyes (ouch!) and it is important to apply them while the transplanting gel is still wet.
The process definitely speeds up over time, but takes awhile to get used to. I used to put eye make up on before applying mascara, but prefer to put on the mascara first when using the 3D lashes, in case of smudges. Some of my friends find their 3D lashes as essential as lip gloss and use the two as a great pick me up when they have limited time.
I like the Younique 3D lashes, but I’m not sure they are a practical, every day item for me yet. I definitely enjoy them for a more polished look, however, and plan to continue practicing to achieve the look I want.
Where Can I Get it?
As I mentioned, Younique By Haley is generously offering a 3D Lash Set as part of an awesome prize package for new moms and babies in November.
