Itsy Bitsy Necessities takes pride in offering products that their family currently uses or has used in the past. This means that store owner Sara can comfortably recommend any of the brands that she carries, offer suggestions, and troubleshoot. When Sara and I discussed a diaper to review for my newborn, she clearly wanted to find something that would suit the needs of my family. She didn’t have a one-size-fits-all newborn solution, but wanted to learn about our preferences.
Itsy Bitsy Necessities Customer Care
Sara ultimately recommended the Simplee AI2 from Nuggles after hearing my preference for AIOs and desire to try a diaper that would grow with baby. Nuggles offers a Bittee newborn diaper, but when I told Sara that my last baby weighed in at over 10 lbs, she recommended the Simplee. She even checked in to see how the Simplee fit my 9 lb baby and shared her personal experience getting a smaller fit when I told her that one-size diapers were difficult to fit around his small legs. This is customer service from someone who cares about customers and truly wants families to cloth diaper successfully!
A Company She Can Stand Behind
I also learned that Sara chooses Nuggles because the owner is someone who puts “her whole heart into the brand.” Nuggles are Canadian designed and the company’s goal is to make cloth diapers simple, modern, and green. This is why they created an AI2 diaper that never needs to be unsnapped or unstuffed. Their goal is to make cloth diapering easy enough that everyone will choose it.
Simplee One-Size AI2
The Simplee AI2 is one-size bamboo cloth diaper, created to fit babies from 8 to 40 lbs. The AI2 (all in two) design means that families have options and can adjust the diaper according to baby’s needs. Since I was testing this diaper on a new baby, my biggest concerns were ease of use and trim fit, while I’d focus more heavily on absorbency and adjustable fit as he grows. Great colors and patterns, as well as a non-bulky look are always a plus too!
Simply Soft Bamboo Terry
I immediately appreciated the soft feel of the bamboo terry lining and inserts. Parents who have used bamboo diapers know that it can sometimes feel initially soft, but get a bit stiff in the wash. I didn’t find this to be the case with the bamboo terry blend and appreciated having this smooth fabric in both the diaper lining and inserts against my baby’s delicate skin.
The Simplee comes with two inserts. The first is a regular one-size insert that can be folded and adjusted according to baby’s needs. The second is a newborn insert that can be used alone for a small baby, then as a booster for added absorbency. These are trim inserts and definitely right for use with a small or slim baby to avoid the dreaded one-size diaper bulk. The inserts snap into the diaper, so there is no shifting, and you can choose to stuff them inside the pocket opening or lie them on top. Either way, the insert will remain snapped and agitate clean in the wash. No finding, matching, and stuffing inserts!
One Size Doesn’t Fit All
While the Simplee AI2 is definitely a trim diaper with inserts, it is also a wide diaper, even snapped down to the lowest setting. My baby initially met the weight requirements, but I found he would leak out the leg holes, even on the smallest setting. I imagine using this diaper on my first two babies from birth successfully. They weighed less at birth, but were more compact and chubby. The diaper itself fits well around baby’s trim waist and we experienced no other issues. I am confident this will be a well-fitting diaper as he grows and a popular choice in our stash.
Bold Color
The Simplee comes in four bold color choices and two prints, at a mid price point of $24.95 to $25.95. If you use it as an AI2 and change out the top cover a few times, you definitely get more value for your money. Three of the colors also come with contrasting color snaps, a feature I adore. I tried the Koi, an orange color, and loved its brightness.
If you are considering an AI2, the Simplee is a great choice and you can buy it from Sara at Itsy Bitsy Necessities with confidence, knowing she backs it with her expertise and experience. Sara has also generously sponsored a Simplee in The 4th Time Around Baby Shower Event!
Thanks for this great review. Just wondering if you if have a front loader as I know that sometimes front loaders aren’t able to get the snapped-in inserts to agitate out. If you do have a front loader, are you inclined to unsnap them anyways to make sure they get really clean? TIA!
Hi there! I don’t have a front loader, so I am not certain. 🙂
