One sized cloth diapers and a newborn baby can be a tricky combination. It’s important to note the size range of any diaper system and recognize that one diaper may technically fit from day one, but may not be the right fit for your baby at that stage. The Lalabye Baby One Size Stay Dry Bamboo diaper is labeled to fit babies beginning at about 8 lbs. Our baby has technically fit in this size range since birth, but we’ve struggled with a bulky fit in many one size diapers, especially on his long frame and trim legs. The Lalabyebaby 3.o Diaper has proved a notable exception, providing the slimmest fit for a one-size diaper on our little guy.
The Lalabye Baby diaper offers a convenient option for the newborn stage, when diaper changes seem never-ending. While the diaper can be a one-use pocket style, it can also serve as an AI2, if you lay an insert over the top. The pocket style will allow the envelope’s stay dry layer to go up against your baby’s skin. The AI2 style puts the softer bamboo insert on top of the stay dry layer. I prefer the second option, although I will say that I’ve had very little success reusing a cover with poopy diapers on just about any AI2 with small babies – poop invariably goes to the side and onto the cover.
This diaper offers one of the trimmest inserts on the market and it’s pretty incredible that they are so absorbent. Each diaper comes with a newborn and one-size insert, an essential feature for any one-size diaper. The newborn insert provides enough absorbency when baby is small, without compromising fit. The option to snap in inserts might also give this AI2 an edge over one-size AIOs I love so much, because the insert can be tailored better to baby’s sizing needs.
I appreciate the rows of colored snaps on the Lalabyebaby. I know the rainbow has a purpose, but they are just so aesthetically pleasing! It’s actually a shame that they can’t be seen when the diaper is snapped to it’s lowest setting (I wish those snaps were a contrasting color to the diaper). Beyond the cuteness factor, these snaps help you quickly identify the current setting for your baby. This way, you don’t have to adjust the fit every time. It also makes it simple to say to another care taker, “Baby is on the red snaps right now,” making cloth with snaps less intimidating.
I will admit that I tend to reserve snap diapers for day time wear right now. I simply do not have the energy to stumble in the dark searching for snap settings on a one size diaper while my baby cries and kicks his legs impatiently. This is growing easier as he sleeps longer, but I still keep a stash of aplix closures for night time.
Overall, I appreciate the quality of the Lalabyebaby diaper, as well as the general fit. I have to be careful to make sure the legs are as snug as possible, otherwise wetness can creep out of the leg holes. This is a common problem with one-size diapers on our trim little guy right now, however. Lalabyebaby diapers are also cute, well made, and come in a variety of fun colors and patterns.

That is an interesting fit on a newborn. I’m always interested to see a one-size on a newbie. I love their colored snaps!
