Imse Vimse brings cloth diaper convenience to a whole new level with their All-in-One (AIO) diaper. This AIO comes in four sizes (including preemie) and includes two different attached fabric styles, making it unique among competitors. I had the chance to test the new Imse Vimse AIO in medium on my 14 month-old, 20.5 lb son and it quickly became part of our regular stash rotation.
Convent Design
This is where the Imse Vimse AIO truly shines, in my opinion. This diaper features:
- 4 sizes (including preemie), so no need to adjust anywhere but the waist.
- AIO grab-n-go style.
- Two attached fabric flaps, so you can choose organic cotton or stay dry fleece without changing inserts.
- Absorbent enough for nap time without extra inserts.
- Durable hook and loop closure for quick diaper changes.
- The gussets, while imperfect, provide a great safety net against blow outs.
Fit
Sebastian is in the middle of the size range for medium (15-22 lbs) and the start of the size range for large (20-26 lbs). He is a tall, trim baby, so I’m glad we went with the medium. The Imse Vimse AIO fits him with room to spare and I suspect it would have been too large at 15 lbs or, at a minimum, very bulky. If you have a chunkier baby, then this sizing is probably ideal.
That being said, I was definitely able to get a working fit and we experienced no issues with leaks. I did feel that a closer fit around the legs would have benefited baby, who did have some poop sneak out of the legs after giving this diaper a particularly rough test drive. This only occurred at nap time, though, and wasn’t an issue with day time wear.
This is our first time trying an Imse Vimse diaper, so I am not familiar with the previous sizing. The product description does say that the updated sizing” fits broader weight range to allow for longer wear.
Fabric
This AIO doesn’t make you choose between natural and stay dry fibers. The soaker layers are made with 100% certified organic cotton terry. The flap-style soaker allows you to choose the fabric you want against your baby’s skin – either stay-dry micro fleece or certified organic cotton. Both are soft and comfortable, but I liked having the stay-dry against baby’s skin, especially at nap time.
The outer shell is made of a soft, waterproof PUL. It is lined with organic cotton for extra comfort, with the exception of the gussets. I’m a big fan of the gussets, except I would love for them to be lined as well. Not only would this be more comfortable, but I found that the white PUL gussets stained after just one use.
The shell comes in three patterns and white. While I don’t love white, I can see how some families would find this to be a clean, simple look. We tried the fun, vibrant Zoo, a very cute gender neutral print. You can also find the AIO in the more subdued Snowland and the whimsical Woodland, featuring the ever-popular foxes.
Absorbency
The Imse Vimse AIO certainly comes with enough absorbency to keep up with a heavy wetter during daytime. We have an average nap/night time wetter and the AIO, surprisingly, did just fine to get him through. This is a big deal when diapering your baby is like wrestling an alligator. This AIO means no prepping, stuffing, or snapping.
Closure
The new AIO comes with adjustable hook and loop closures, which might be a disappointment for snap fans. I went through a “snaps only” phase, but this baby broke me of that habit. I still use snaps, but a sticky, well-made hook and loop is my favorite. Sebastian has zero patience for diaper changes and the hook and loop allows for a good fit, even with baby standing up.
Overall, I liked the Imse Vimse AIO. I would prefer a trimmer fit, but this diaper would be ideal for a chunkier baby. The price is higher at $31.95, but you would only need to purchase one size at a time.
