It happened again. I went to make homemade cream cheese frosting and found myself missing one key ingredient: Powdered Sugar. One option is, of course, to run to the store. The other option? Google it. I’m always amazed by quick homemade substitutions and Google saved me from a trip to the store once again.
Did you know that you can easily make powdered sugar using two baking ingredients you readily keep on hand and a blender?
Seriously.
This is how it works.
HOMEMADE POWDERED SUGAR SUBSTITUTE
Ingredients:
1 1/2 Cups of Sugar (Sugar Substitutes can be used as well)
1 Tablespoon of Corn Starch
Tools:
Blender
Directions:
Add ingredients to blender. Blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you are using a small blender, you might need to stop and shake the dry ingredients mid blend. Make sure it is blended well or the results could be grainy. You will end up with 1 1/2 Cups of Powdered Sugar, plus a bit more. Store and use when needed.
I tried this out tonight for my cream cheese frosting and it worked just as well as the store bought version. Now that is an easy substitution I love!
Thanks for the tip. My grocery store was out of buttermilk for months and I wanted to make this donut recipe and then I found out the substitute is milk and vinegar and it works just great, love easy substitutes.
This is great to know since I usually don’t have powdered sugar on hand.
