Do you prefer caramel or peanut butter?
I’m a caramel girl myself, but the real answer is “Why Choose?”
We have an abundance of rice cereal, so I decided to make Rice Krispies Treats the other day. The experience ended up being a bit like a baking version of “If You Give A Mouse a Cookie.”
If you give a Mom some milk, she’s going to want some rice cereal to go with it.
When you give her the rice cereal, she’ll ask for some marshmallows.
After she melts the marshmallows, she will feel uninspired and want some peanut butter.
She will add the peanut butter and crave caramel.
You will find her some caramel and she’ll add in on top of the peanut butter treats.
She will then decide that you can’t have caramel without chocolate and you’ll melt some.
After she tops the caramel with chocolate, she’ll let it set, then take a big bite.
And if you give a mom a bite of Whatchmacallit Cookie Bars, she is going to want a glass of milk.
Whatchamcallit Cookie Bars Recipe
These Whatchamacallit Cookie Bars are like biting into one of my favorite candy bars!
Peanut butter or caramel? Why choose? These rich, gooey, chewy bars taste like biting into one of my favorite candy bars.
Ingredients
- 1 Peanut Butter Rice Cereal Bars Recipe
- 3 circles of caramel from a 6.5 ounce bag of Concord Caramel Apple Wraps OR 11 oz bag of caramels, melted
- 24 ounces milk chocolate almond bark, melted
- 3 Tablespoons of Butter
- 4 Cups of Mini Marshmallows
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
- 6 cups of rice cereal
Instructions
Make one batch of Peanut Butter Rice Cereal Bars (recipe below). Set aside to cool.
Stretch caramel wraps and place side by side in pan, covering all of the bars.

Melt the chocolate on the stove top or in the microwave until smooth.
Top bars with chocolate.
Place in refrigerator for about 10 minutes to allow chocolate to harden.

Cut into 2 inch squares and enjoy!
Coat a 8 x 13 inch pan with butter or baking spray.
Melt butter over low, then add marshmallows. Stir marshmallows constantly until melted. Add vanilla and peanut butter. Stir until combined. Take off of stove, add cereal, then stir to coat. Place mixture in pan, even with a spatula, and let cool.

Love the use of the carmel wraps in this. I became peanut sensitive after my last pregnancy but I bet these would be good with regular rice crispies too.
