A few times a month, a post comes up in cloth diaper forums. It’s a kind of confession only other cloth diaper fanatics will understand. This is how it feels to put away cloth diapers.
My baby is potty training and I’m like, “No! I don’t want to put away the adorable cloth diapers!”
And it’s good that I’m behind a computer screen because I’m like
But I try to be cool and sympathetic, like
Because potty training itself is basically the worst.

But I remember the time we put the cloth diapers away a year and a half ago. When I temporarily felt happy/sad.

Then overwhelming excitement.

And the sweet feeling of not changing any diapers.

Or carrying a diaper bag.
Or buying/washing diapers.

And then bringing it all back out 10 months ago.

All I can think is, “No more diapers??? Get it together. It’s time to bring your real purse out of the back of the closet and celebrate!”

But try to do this instead.

I remember being briefly sad that K was potty training, but it was a relief to not have to really worry about it. Then B trained herself it was like, aww, okay then, moving on, and now Casey is getting ready to head that way, too, if I can get healthy and strong enough to tackle her and let her sit on the potty she may be briefly trained before baby #4 arrives and i’ll be thinking WHEW, not AWWWW.
Maybe it’s something you gain with experience?
I was a little sad when my oldest potty trained. But mostly I was happy because I no longer had to change nasty preschooler diapers!
This is hilarious and true! Such mixed emotions!
Lol…the two Michael Scott gifs. That about sums it up.
lol i try to put away our diapers, the kids just get them out to play with. they usually end up on the floor next to the changing table. I just grab them out of the pile they make.
Lol, thanks for this! Bittersweet for sure!
I loved this article, definitely a bittersweet moment. ❤️
Potty training bootcamp for kid number #2 is a week from tomorrow. I am so so so ready to be done, but my BG Harper is really pretty and I’ll miss it. I did buy a Flip Patch trainer just because it was gorgeous for when she needs a little something for long car rides. The nighttime diapers will be around for a while. Sadly, they aren’t pretty but they are super absorbent.
There will likely be a third child someday. I’ll need to replace most of my elastics, and I’m not looking forward to that. I’ve done it before and was not thrilled with the results.
Awww. Cute. My little is only 3.5 months old but it will be nice not to have to lug a diaper bag around.
Hahaha I love those gifs!! I haven’t gone through the process of putting diapers away but I think it will be a bittersweet feeling. I’m only 8 months into the cloth diapering journey and I’m far from done! Thanks for the laugh!
I will be one sad mama when there are no more fluff butts running around the house. I still get sad that I have to put pants over some of our velcro diapers because my son has figured out how to take them off.
